“Yes, Pres,” echoed around the room.

Vera and Wanda didn’t argue. They hurried off with their escorts, looking relieved to be out from under the spotlight.

“I’ll make coffee and get something for everyone to eat,” Rita murmured, patting my shoulder as she passed. “Glad you’re okay, Ju.”

“Me too,” I admitted.

“I’ll help Rita,” Harriet added, giving me a soft smile. “Happy to have you home, Juju. And you, Pres.”

I returned her smile. “Good to be home.” I speared Glacier with a look. “I met your brother today.”

“Ah, fuck,” he groaned.

Ah, fuck indeed!

He sighed. “I’ll tell you about him. But not tonight.”

“Okay. It’s been a long day. I’ll let you off, but soon.”

“Soon, darlin’, I promise. It’s a long story. Not a nice one either. Let’s just say he’s not my biggest fan.”

“Maybe not, but he came through for us today.”

“I know.” He nodded. “I’ll reach out to him.”

I left it at that. Families were complicated. I got that.

And right now, we had more than enough to deal with. I could wait.

CHAPTER 22

THE MOLE

It was amazing what you learned when you listened. I was good at staying quiet, at going unseen. I’d made an art of it growing up.

I knew the Kings got shipments of guns delivered through the feed store. And I knew one was expected today.

What I didn’t know was when. But that wasn’t my problem. As far as I was concerned, that was on Agent Reynolds.

I also overheard a conversation between Mystery and Bet. The President and his closest men would be away on the day of the delivery. They were setting up a decoy for the ATF to follow.

Felt like divine intervention.

It didn’t take long to send the message to Reynolds.

Me: Shipment expected today via feed store. Other delivery is a decoy. Officers away from the clubhouse today.

R: Time?

Me: Don’t know. Flexible but late afternoon/evening usually.

R: K

Me: Address for my daughter.

R: When the job is done.

Fucking asshole. I hated him.
