I mentally tallied up what we had in stock and what we’d need for our client for the last load. “Shouldn’t be a problem. When do you need them?”
“This weekend.”
“Okay, I’ll get my guys on it.”
“Thanks, man. Appreciate it. Also…” He trailed off.
I waited.
“Look, man, I know we’ve had our differences, but is there any chance you can be with that delivery?”
I was surprised at the request. “Maybe. Why?”
“We’ve heard rumblings this side about a new club causing issues. I’m reaching out to that rich fucker, Maverick, to meet with us. He’s bringing Spook with him, and I’m guessing you’ll bring Lawless and Lurch. From my side, we’ve got Duke, Spectre, and Pitch,” Banshee said.
“Maestro?”
He hesitated again. “They’re clean.”
“He still needs to know, man. He’s closer to you than we are. They’ll need to be prepared. Besides, they may be clean now, but you sure as shit know they’ll be there if they’re needed. And you know his girl.”
“Fuck, yeah.” He groaned. “I forgot about her. Okay, I’ll see if he and Cash will meet.”
“Where we meeting?” So many club Presidents in one place, plus our VPs, was asking for trouble. We’d have to be careful.
“Our clubhouse. Safest place.”
“Understood. Full disclosure, we’ve got the ATF on our asses.”
“I heard. Plan like it’s a regular ride. What we need should fit in saddlebags.”
“That’s a plan,” I agreed. “I’ll speak to my boys. Later.”
Ending the call, I destroyed the card and stood to leave the office, coming to a halt when I saw Newby in the doorway. He was holding my cut with an unreadable expression.
“Newby. Problem?”
“I’m not sure, Pres. I found something when I was cleaning your cut.”
“Show me.”
He opened his hand, and I saw red. My jaw tightened. My hands curled into fists, my nails biting into my palms. I breathed deeply, one breath at a time, until I was calm and thinking clearly.
I wasn’t my father. I refused to lash out at someone who didn’t deserve it.
When I was back in control, I calmly asked, “Where?”
He flipped the cut over and pointed to the inside, near the middle of the hem.
“You did good, Newby.” I took the bug and my cut from him. “Get Zero for me and have him come to Church.”
“Yes, Pres.” He hurried away.
I grabbed my phone and sent a message to the Officers.
Me: Church. Now. Urgent. No speaking. Bugged.
I didn’t wait for a response. Leaving my office, I locked the door and went to the room where we held Church, still carrying my cut. I waited for my brothers to assemble.
