Me: Taking Juju back to the clubhouse. The rear door of the shop needs securing.
Lurch: On it.
The ride back to the clubhouse wasn’t long enough. I wished we had more time. One day, we would, but not today.
Before long, I was again watching her taillights disappear down the road. The memory of her lips on mine would have to do for the next few weeks. First, I needed to speak to Jude.
Me: Meeting tonight at the tower.
Jude: Usual time?
Me: Yep.
Somebody was in our town, watching, and I wanted to know who.
CHAPTER 14
JUJU
Iwatched Glacier getting smaller and smaller as I drove away. It had only been a few weeks. I wasn’t sure why this was hitting me so hard. Three weeks. That was what I gave myself before I came back. I didn’t want to put my life on hold any longer.
With that thought in mind, I pressed the call button for the shop.
“Fraser’s Feedstore,” Gabe answered.
“Gabe.” I smiled, happy my brother had picked up rather than my dad, who would have wanted to know everything before I got home. This way, I’d only have to say it once.
“Hey, little sister. Are you on your way home from your dirty weekend with the biker?” Gabe teased.
“Fuck you, Gabe.” I snorted a laugh. “I don’t ask you about your sex life with your wife.”
“You know the rules, Ju. Once there’s a ring on it, you don’t get to tease. I recall plenty of teasing when Libby and I were dating. You wearing a ring, Juju?”
I hesitated, knowing he was teasing.
“Juju,” he barked at my pause. “Did you marry the biker this weekend?”
“Um, nooo?” I replied, but even I could hear the question in my tone.
“Ju, you don’t sound certain about the answer,” Gabe whispered. I heard a door close in the background. “You’d better explain.”
“I may or may not be becoming an Ol’ Lady.” The words rushed out.
It was the first time I’d said it out loud. My heart was beating so fast that I was worried it was going to jump out of my chest. I wasn’t sure why I was so nervous. This was my brother. He loved me unconditionally.
“The fuck?” Gabe growled. “That’s hella quick, Ju. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”
I was silent for a moment, thinking about how I felt when I was with Glacier, his strong arms wrapped around me, the warmth of his kiss. How I slept through the night—no nightmares dragging me awake. The way he was gentle with me but hard with everyone else.
The feeling of safety that surrounds me when I’m at the club. And the respect his brothers had for him.
I’d watched them all this weekend, paying attention. I knew what a good man looked like when I saw one. As I should. I’d lived with two good men my whole life.
“Yeah,” I breathed. “I know what I’m doing, Gabe. He makes me feel safe. I want to call a family meeting when I get back. I’ve got some news and decisions to make.”
“Fuck,” Gabe groaned. “Okay, I’ll let the old man, Fin, and Libby know.”
“Thanks, big brother. Love you, and I’ll see you soon.”
