I stalked towards her, walking her back until her back hit the edge of the counter. I lifted her, settling her ass on the countertop. Licking my lips, I eyed the tops of her lush breasts. Lowering my head, I pressed a kiss to her breastbone.
“Nothing I’d like more than to strip you and take you back to bed. But fight night calls. Kiss me, then be a good girl and stay here while I finish making us something to eat.”
“Okay,” she whispered.
The corners of her lips tilted slightly as she angled her head and kissed me, soft and sweet, nothing like the previous kisses we’d exchanged. I found I enjoyed it as much as the hard, deep kisses we’d shared.
Giving her one last peck, I reached over, picked up her beer, and handed it to her. “Stay there,” I warned, stepping away to the stove, warmed by the sound of her laughter.
“I’ll be good,” she promised. “I’m starving.”
“Good,” I responded, flipping the sandwich. “How’s Fin?”
“Oh, he’s at a party tonight.” She grinned. “I offered to buy him condoms.”
I barked a laugh. Fucking hell… this woman.
“I bet he was pleased. Other than condoms for Fin, did you have a good three weeks?”
“Not bad,” she replied, going on to tell me about what she’d been up to.
We talked through the meal and cleaning up. It was normal, and I enjoyed her company. Juju was unfiltered and didn’t give a shit what she said. Whatever thought popped into her mind came out of her mouth. I laughed more than I had in weeks.
We walked outside, still chatting.
“Holy Christ. No wonder you were in a bad mood.”
We both started as we saw Lawless standing next to his bike, waiting for us. His eyes were on Juju, and for the first time in our friendship, I wanted to punch him.
“Fuck me, darlin’. I’m going to hurt people tonight, starting with my best friend if he doesn’t stop ogling you,” I muttered to Juju as I helped her into a leather jacket. “Maybe you should wear this the whole time.”
Juju threw back her head and laughed, then patted my cheek. “No need to worry, handsome. I’m a one-man woman. I only have eyes for you until this is over. They can look all they want, but I’ll be going home with you. Maybe you’ll get lucky and I’ll kiss all your booboos after your fight.”
She winked and strolled down the steps to my ride.
Fuckin’ hell.
I adjusted my hard cock and followed her, glaring daggers at Lawless until he looked away with a shit-eating grin. He was texting on his phone, so I knew he was shit-stirring. Fuckin’ best friends were a pain in the ass, especially when they knew which buttons to push. He knew I didn’t share and was territorial. Not that I’d ever been territorial over a woman. This was the first time.
Jesus Christ. It hit me square in the chest, stealing my breath. I was falling for her, and I wasn’t sure she was on the same page.
The timing couldn’t be worse.
Story of my life.
Wrong fucking timing… always the wrong fucking timing.
CHAPTER 8
JUJU
We met up with the rest of the brothers at the clubhouse parking lot. Most of them gave me a nod, though a few looked surprised to see me on the back of Glacier’s bike.
I had to admit, I liked that it wasn’t a common sight—a woman riding with him. We didn't linger, and before long, we were riding from the clubhouse through the security gate. The brothers fell in behind us, one by one. I didn’t know much about their formation, but I guessed each brother had a place. I had so much to learn.
Once we hit the main road, Glacier opened it up, and we were flying. A grin spread across my face, and I wished I wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Glacier had surprised me when he’d handed me the helmet before we’d left—not his making sure I’d be safe on his bike, but seeing my name on the back of the helmet. I wasn’t sure how to feel about that. It screamed of claiming. But what did I know? I could be overthinking things.
