PROLOGUE 1

GLACIER – AGE 16

Disgust filled me as I watched my father—the President of the Kings of Anarchy North Dakota Chapter and the man I was supposed to look up to—fall over his own feet and collapse on the floor, as drunk as a skunk. I knew what would happen next. What always happened. He’d vomit and expect the Prospects to clean it up. Then he’d start again, this time choosing hard drugs. Cocaine was his drug of choice for now.

“He’s escalating.”

Turning to one of my best friends, Lawless, all I could do was nod. He wasn’t wrong. My father was getting worse by the day. I wish I could speed up time, but unfortunately, I couldn’t. I could only hope that Harris, Lawless’s dad and our VP, could hold it together for two more years.

“What are you boys doing in here?” Harris wanted to know, his hands heavy as they clamped onto our shoulders.

We moved apart so he could see.

“For fuck’s sake,” he muttered angrily. “You boys go on now. Shoe and I’ll sort this.”

“Two more years. That’s all I need,” I told him. “I’ve got a plan.”

Harris looked at me, realising I was serious. “Let me get him to his room, and you and I can talk, son. I’ll come find you.”

“Okay.” I nodded.

Turning, I tagged Lawless and Lurcher, the other part of our trio, on my way out of the clubhouse. We headed to the stables, where our chores still waited for us.

Not only did we run the club, but we also owned and managed a ranch that kept us legit.

We were in the barn, feeding the horses, when Harris and Shoes, our current Sergeant at Arms, found us.

“So, boys, what's the plan?” Harris asked, looking at us.

I motioned to the hay bales for them to sit, then laid it all out for them. It wasn’t going to be quick. It would take years to put everything in place, but then we’d be golden. We’d run the club and the town of Bitterthorn.

When I was done, Shoe and Harris looked at each other.

“It could work,” Shoe agreed.

“And the foster boys? Are they good with this?” Harris asked.

“Yeah. I spoke to Jude earlier today.” I smirked, running a finger under my black eye. “We came to an understanding.”

“Okay.” Harris stood. “Shoe and I will do what we can to mitigate the damage your Pops is creating. If it gets bad, we’ll bring in Big Daddy, but you know they prefer us to handle things in-house.”

“I look forward to retiring.” Shoe grinned at us. “We can hold out for two years, then me and the Ol’ Lady want to go travelling.”

“Two years for Lurcher, Lawless, and me, but it’ll be more like six to eight years to get Jude, Abel, and the boys elected as Sheriff and deputies.”

Harris nodded. “We know. We’ll keep paying the current one off until you boys are ready.”

GLACIER – AGE 18

“You’re done. You’re out the club,” I growled at the piece of filth lying in his own waste on the ground outside my childhood home.

He lay where I’d tossed him. Fucking piece of shit. I was ashamed to call him my father. It had been a hard two years keeping our club going, and if it hadn’t been for Harris and Shoes, I wasn’t sure we would’ve made it. But we did.

Now it was time to clean house.

Nobody fucked with the Kings. Not even one of our own.
