CHAPTER ONE

Clary

Going on this cruise was the best idea I’d had in a while. Work had been stressful with all the talk of abductions and crime in Vegas. There had even been a police chase with the FBI involved recently! I used to walk to work with little worry, but now I carried pepper spray and took a taxi whenever I could afford it.

On top of that, a bunch of my friends were starting to get married. They’d found caring, reliable men who brought out the best in them. The only men I seemed to attract were gambling addicts and sleazeballs.

At the thought, one walked by, leering at me as I lounged on the pool deck of the cruise ship. I glared right at him and he took the hint and moved on, so I leaned back and closed my eyes.

The wind made it a bit chilly, but I wasn’t going to waste my days huddled in my room. The gentle swaying of the boat was relaxing and I soon started to doze.

As I lounged there, I imagined the man from the last crazy night at work. There had been a group of strong, sexy men, wearing power suits and dress pants. I’m pretty sure they were there for a bachelor party, but I was hoping it wasn’t his.

He was tall and dark, with muscles that stood out against his dress pants and shirt. His hair was brushed back from his face, showing off brilliant eyes that seemed to drink in the sight of me.

I wondered what he’d look like in just swim trunks on the deck with me. He’d been tan and fit at the bar that night, laughing and flirting with me while I served them drinks.

I imagined him walking across the deck and sitting down on the lounge chair next to me, slowly running his hands all over my body. I was no skinny model. I had curves in all the right places and when he ran his hands over them, I felt heat in my core.

He would lower his thick lips to mine and take possession, forcing my lips open with his tongue and teeth, ravishing me until I was moaning beneath him. I would run my hands down his smooth, toned chest, letting my fingers linger at his nipples first, and then his stomach muscles.

Then I’d reach down and grab his cock, rubbing my hand up and down it while he kissed and sucked on my neck. He’d move his way down to my tits, pulling and pinching my nipples until I was moaning and crying out.

He’d remove his swim trunks and move my tiny suit out of the way. When I imagined him plunging into my pussy, I knew I should probably move to my room.

I could feel the wetness between my legs. Plus I wanted to finish myself.

I opened my eyes and was horrified to find I wasn’t alone on the deck anymore. I didn’t know how long he’d been there, or how obvious I’d been about what I was fantasizing about.

But it was actually him. The sexy man from that night.

He was standing off to the side and surveying the deck. He’d definitely been checking me out, so I lifted my sunglasses up and smiled at him. I hoped he couldn’t tell what I was blushing from.

The recognition in his eyes surprised me somewhat. He’d been tanked that night.

“Why hello! Man enough to join me?” I teased him.

He walked over with a smile on his face.

“I recognize you from the crazy bachelor party night, but didn’t catch your name,” he inquired.

“That was a crazy night. I’m Clary.”

I held out my hand. When he leaned down and took it, I felt the shock down to my toes.

“I’m Jeremy. It’s a little colder up here than I expected,” he observed, shivering, but taking a seat.

“The sun keeps coming out and making it nice, then hiding away again.”

We continued this chit-chat until I asked if he was on the cruise by himself.

When he went awkwardly silent, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

“Yeah, so the crazy night at the casino bar? That was MY bachelor party. The next day was supposed to be my wedding. But she never showed up.”

He reached behind him and pulled out a flask. He offered it to me with a stoic look on his face, but I shook my head no.

“I’m so sorry. What kind of idiot would stand you up?” I asked without thinking, then blushed like a fool.

He grinned at my compliment and took another swig.

“I don’t know. She hasn’t spoken to me since.”

He took another swig.

So are you on the cruise alone?” he asked.

“Yeah,” I shrugged. “My friend was supposed to come with me on a girls’ trip, but she’s getting married and circumstances have changed. I needed to get away from the scary intensity in Vegas, so here I am anyway.”

“I’m really glad,’ he said, smiling at me in a way that warmed my insides. “I’m definitely not looking to start a relationship, but could use someone to hang out with, if that’s okay with you?”

I smiled back at him and nodded.

“I can understand that. Sounds like a plan,” I agreed.
