EPILOGUE

Kellan

Serena screamed out in pain, tears streaming down her face as she was told by the doctor to push. I held her hand, not even caring that I felt like she was about to break my hand, needing to be here for her since she was giving birth to our children. It was a bit of a surprise, but I was happy.

Six weeks after we got married, we found out we were expecting twins. It happened when we were consummating our marriage, and to me, it was like a dream come true. At first, Serena wasn’t really happy about it since we just got married and all, but over time, she grew to be as happy as I was. We have yet to find out the gender yet, wanting it to be a surprise.

“You’re almost there.” I told her softly, wiping the sweat from her forehead, “you can do it, baby girl.”

Her eyes met mine, and I saw the fear and pain there. It made my heart clench, hating to see her like this. It was too late to give her an epidural since the babies were coming so fast, but I wished they could have.

“Keep on pushing, ma’am.” The doctor told her, “I can see the crown of the head. One hard push.”

“AAAHHH!” Serena yelled as she pushed.

I heard the cry of the baby, but I knew we still had a long way to go. The baby was taken by the nurses as the doctor worked on the next one. My heart was racing in my chest, a little afraid that we would have to go in for emergency surgery. I let out a deep breath of relief when I heard the cry of the second baby as it was taken by the nurses. Serena slumped down onto the bed, breathing hard and obviously tired. I leaned down, kissing her forehead.

“You did amazing.” I told her softly.

“A boy and a girl!” The doctor announced, the nurses bringing over the babies, “have you figured out the names yet?”

I took hold of one of the babies while the other was given to Serena who had been propped up by another nurse. Tears of happiness filled my eyes as I gazed down at our beautiful babies, seeing the mess of black hair on the tops of their heads. Seeing as they were identical twins, I was a little thankful that they were a boy and a girl because they wouldn’t get mixed up.

Serena’s eyes met mine, and I could tell she was happy as well. Serena and I had decided on names long before today depending on the situation of what we were going to have. Their names flew out of my mouth before I could stop myself.

“Isabel and Blake, that is their names.”
