A while back, I decided I was going to leave the escort business. I had made more than enough money to last me a few lifetimes, and I felt like I needed something new. I needed to find a relationship with someone that wasn’t just business. I wasn’t going to take Serena’s job--already planning to leave--but when I read what she was looking for, I had to take the job for myself. I was curious to see what kind of woman she really was.
She wasn’t looking for sex, just wanted to make her ex jealous.
I couldn’t help but be curious, wondering what kind of man he could be to get her like this.
I highly doubted he would be anything compared to me.
Since it wasn’t noon yet, Café Dumont wasn’t going to be too busy and we would be able to talk freely without worrying about our conversation being overheard by nosy people who couldn’t mind their own damn business. I had had to deal with that a time or two and it was obvious this was her first time trying out an escort service. I was going to make the best out of all of this so she would be happy with my experience.
You always needed to leave a best first impression.
I headed down to the Café Dumont, finding a seat at one of the farther booths that nobody really went toward. No woman had approached me yet, so it was safe to say that she hadn’t arrived. The waitress came over and I ordered a glass of water, telling her that someone would be joining me shortly and to come back when she did. The waitress looked disappointed, and I could already tell what she was thinking.
No doubt she thought I was hot and thought she could have a chance with me.
It’s a common occurrence.
I waited patiently, glancing at the door every time it opened. It was getting closer and closer to the time she was supposed to arrive, and it made me wonder if she had changed her mind and decided not to go through with this. It would be quite disappointing, but I couldn’t say I would blame her. It was a scary business, and not many people understood why we do it. Some did it for the money, others for the thrill. I was a bit of both, and I did make a lot of money.
But there always comes a day when you decide it would just be best to stop.
The door opened once more, catching my attention. As I looked up, the woman who walked through made me still, my dick hardening slightly in my pants. Wow, she is a beauty, I mused, my eyes roaming over her.
She was slightly tall for a woman, maybe five-nine, with a slim build and tan skin. She wore a knee-length fitted black dress that hugged her body in all the right places, but it was classy enough that it didn’t look too sexual. Her long, curly black ringlets fell past her shoulders and over her breasts. Her eyes were a light blue, almost grey color, and she had delicate features. Does she have Native American blood, I wondered to myself as I saw she had high cheekbones and a long, straight nose.
I wasn’t the only one looking at her, and I had to fight the urge to glare at the men who kept peeking at her. I shook my head, knowing that I couldn’t talk to her since I was waiting for my client to show up. That was too bad.
I turned my attention to my phone, seeing that it was two minutes past ten. I frowned, knowing that things happened and people run late, but I hated when that happened. It felt like a waste of time, and it would disappoint me if she stood me up.
I would like to think that she wasn’t like that.
“Kellan?” A soft, melodic voice murmured.
My head snapped up, and I realized then that I was looking at the woman who had caught my attention the moment she walked through the door. My heart thumped in my chest, so loud I thought she could hear.
I thought this was going to get a lot more interesting.
CHAPTER THREE
Serena
Kellan’s picture did him no justice, and my heart raced in my chest, obviously attracted to him . Kellan was handsome, even more than Lazarus, and he practically dripped sin. The lazy smile he gave me when he finally looked up at me, and the way his eyes roamed me up and down made my body feel like it was on fire. I clenched my thighs together, praying he didn’t notice as I felt myself becoming aroused by him.
That was something that didn’t just happen.
I quickly sat down across from him, smoothing down my dress, “I apologize if I was a little late. I lost track of time while I was getting ready.”
Kellan grinned, a sparkle in his eyes that I couldn’t quite decipher, “It’s all good. You don’t need to worry about it. I don’t mind waiting for a beautiful woman.”
My cheeks heated up a little bit, but I kept my expression composed and business-like, “Thank you, I’m glad you understand. You said you wanted to meet up to talk about the job?”
That left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. Get a hold of yourself, Serena, this is only a job to him! It doesn’t matter how good looking he is. Once this is over, he will never talk to you again unless you hire him.
“Yes.” Kellan agreed, waving over the waitress, “but first, let’s order some food.”
I was slightly shocked, thinking this was going to be a quick matter, but Kellan seemed to have some different ideas. He ordered himself some food, and I ordered a soup and sandwich with some sweet tea. The waitress was giving me a look, the jealousy clear in her eyes when she looked between Kellan and I. It made me feel good, because no doubt this would be the reaction I would get at the wedding as well. She quickly walked away to put our order in, and I released a deep sigh.
“Is that the kind of reaction you want to get?” Kellan murmured, catching my attention once more.
