She looked up at the ceiling, taking a moment to consider this before nodding her head.
"I suppose," she agreed. "However, don't expect me to throw myself into your bed, naked and at your mercy. It's going to take a lot more to get me to fully agree to be yours."
t first, I was angered by this, but, as I considered the fact that she was kind enough to allow me a second chance in the first place, I decided that this was a fair request.
“That seems reasonable,” I finally agreed. I rose to my feet, carefully watching her as I spoke. “I suppose I better go so you can rest. Starting tomorrow, I’ll start showing you what it feels like to be loved by a passionate and caring man with a lot to offer you.”
With that, I left her room and made my way down to my bedroom and my empty bed hall, ignoring the erection that had grown. I had been granted a second chance.
This time, I didn’t plan on screwing things up for myself or for Lydia.
CHAPTER SEVEN
Lydia
Over the next few weeks, I was able to see that Chase truly meant what he had said that night he had offered to let me go home. Everyday, while I was working to keep his day organized and well-managed, Chase did everything in his power to make me feel more at home than he had the first two weeks I was there. Before long, I was granted my own space outside the office so that we each had our privacy, and Chase even allowed me to venture into town. I continued to maintain each day for Chase, as well as I maintained my own virginity, taking the occasional day off while we worked to fix everything that was wrong with his professional and personal reputations.
“Lydia!” called out someone behind me as I walked through the grocery store, attempting to find everything on the grocery list Rebecca has given me before I left the compound. Confused by the vaguely familiar voice, I looked around, trying to pinpoint the speaker who was calling me out in public. Just when I was about to give up and return to my shopping, Joyce’s head appeared from the crowd, and she waved me down. “Lydia, over here!” I groaned as she made her way over to me.
“What do you want?” I asked watching her cautiously. I was still pretty upset about the way she had left me with her debt the last time. She pouted as she caught up to me and leaned against her cart, stopping me dead in my tracks. I waited for her to respond.
“Is that any way to address your favorite sister?” she asked, sounding offended by my words. “Come on… The least you could do is to ask how life is going.”
I rolled my eyes and started down the grocery aisle, heading back towards the frozen foods aisle, where I was supposed to meet Chase, Adam, and Sarah, Adam’s pregnant old lady.
“After what you pulled the last time, I don’t think you deserve it,” I remarked, ready just to ignore her. “Whatever it is you’re here for, you can forget it. I’m not helping you, and I’m not taking you in because you got yourself kicked out of another place.” She paused and stared at me a moment, seeming shocked by my words.
“Come on, getting fucked for money can’t be that bad,” Joyce told me, completely disregarding the strange looks we were getting from the random strangers we passed as we walked. “How much of my debt did you work off, anyways?” I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to glare at her.
“Nothing,” I snapped as I started her down. “Chase doesn’t consider me to be responsible for your screw ups. Now that you showed your face, I can turn you in to him, and he can continue to collect your debt.”
She sighed and shook her head.
“Look, about that,” she began, and I began to realize that she had already betrayed me once again, “I already owe a pretty high debt to someone else, and they’re demanding that you come and work off the debt the same way you were supposed to pay the debt to the Barbarians.” My heart stopped dead in my chest as I stared at her in shock and disbelief.
“Who do you owe money to this time?” I asked, and she smiled proudly at me.
“The King’s Knights biker gang,” she informed me. “Their leader, Rafael, is really looking forward to meeting you.” Before I could ask her exactly what she meant, I felt a hand land on my shoulder, and I was spun around to look at the person.
“Is this her?” asked the gruff, massive man with the rough-looking stubble who now held me in his grasp. Joyce smiled.
“Yep, that’s her,” she informed him, sounding all too happy to trade me to this complete and total stranger in exchange for the money she had borrowed. “So, we’re good, right? I don’t owe you anything?” The man looked me up and down.
“She looks so delicate,” he commented as he smiled down at me. “She looks pretty well intact after being the plaything of the Barbarians.” Before I could say anything, Joyce rolled her eyes.
“No take backs,” she reminded him, sealing the lid on the metaphorical coffin that was my life. “All sales are final. You promised.” He sighed and nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, I know,” he told her as he looked back down at me. “Ditch the cart. You won’t need any of that where we’re going.” Panic overtook me, and I prepared to scream and fight for my life as I clung to the cart while he took me by the hand and started to drag me away Joyce.
“You can’t do this,” I protested as I struggled to hold my ground. “This is kidnapping. I refuse to go with you. Take Joyce instead.” The man stopped and looked at Joyce for a moment.
"No, thank you," he remarked as he stared at her in disgust. "She's too high maintenance and not worth the trouble." Before I could think of a response, he started to drag me away, and I struggled to think of what to do to stop him.
"Hey!" shouted a familiar voice.
We both stopped, and I felt relieved to see Chase coming straight towards us. He looked absolutely furious, and I was never happier to see him. Behind him was Adam, looking just has upset as Chase looked. They both matched up towards the man.
Chase shook his head.
