Whatever she had to say, I’d be here for it and I was pretty sure I was twice as apprehensive as she was but… I’d be patient and have her tell me, herself.
CHAPTER TEN
Vanessa
How do I say this now? Should I be dramatic? Should I just show him the strips or do I just tell him?
We were halfway through dessert and while I was enjoying his recounting his days at the boot camp in his early Marine days, I was still very bothered about how to break the news to him.
“…then the drill sergeant called Hank to pick on him, as always, like, ‘Oi, Pinhead, do you get called a prick a lot?’ You would not imagine his response!”
I laughed, my sides hurting from having laughed so much that evening. “What was his response?”
Oscar grinned at me before answering with, “Spit it out. What you wanted to tell me, earlier?”
I swallowed, unsure of how to begin.
“Um…Oscar…”
“Yes, Sweetheart,” he answered, his kind eyes cajoling the words out of me.
I couldn’t even find words so I just reached into my black purse and brought out the two test strips and laid them on the table, close to his side. Without another word, I stood up and went to the bathroom with the third, unopened kit and returned five minutes later with a double line positive.
I wished I could take a picture of the shocked expression on his face.
“Is this what I think it is?”
I nodded.
“Oh, my God.”
He sprung to his feet and lifted my shy self from beside the table and hoisted me in the air, laughing hysterically. I was very surprised to see that side of him, all free and excited and beside himself with joy.
“So you mean to tell me, that my twins are right in there?”
I burst into laughter. “Whoever mentioned twins? But okay, twins. Fine. Yeah they’re in there.”
He spun me around again, doing a little jig dance with me still in his arms. I have never seen him so excited, his smiles made him look a lot more handsome than I had ever seen him before.
He claimed my lips in a voracious kiss, setting me down on the dinner table, uncovering skin as he covered my body with kisses. I gasped, not expecting those.
“Forgive me, my Queen, the table is not befitting. Mind if we move to somewhere…more…befitting of the mother of my twins?”
I giggled, more than convinced that Oscar Donahue would make the best father there is. His care, attention to detail, unrestrained love, discipline that he had showered on me would certainly be more than enough for me, my supposed twins and even the other children I may later have for him.
Watching him carry me up the stairs and into his bedroom ever so daintily brought tears into my eyes and I smiled, realizing my soldier Daddy was about to become my Baby Daddy, and that, for me was the cutest thing in the world!
