He rolled his eyes dramatically. “So I did, then what? You should know the suggestion of the goddess of wisdom is basically an order to me.”
“Not you implying I’m a deity. What are you having? The first round's on me.”
“A mojito?”
“A mojito.”
“On the rocks?”
“Definitely on the rocks. I mean, the ice is staring at you!”
I merely laughed and settled into the leather covered stool beside him. We were in for a long, drunken night and I sure as hell knew that.
CHAPTER THREE
Oscar
One thing stood out from the many things on my mind, or rather, one face, one woman, my precious, precious baby girl. I couldn’t wait to leave the field once this Master Sergeant gave me the go ahead. He is the one that keeps saying I should forget about being honorably discharged, and that my destiny is bound to the Marine Corps.
I was always pissed each time he said that. My parents' murderers have not been caught and somehow, I’m supposed to just forego and ignore the legacy they left behind? Dad and I might have had our issues but I can never bring myself to do that– or leave all that money, for what, exactly?
My Baby is waiting for me. Poor Vanessa. I wonder what she must think of me now, having left her for so long without so much as a prior notice. Not like I knew I was going to be sent on an assignment so soon too.
I hope she understands why I had to leave the way I did. If everything goes according to plan, I just may be able to see her…soon.
Vanessa
I stirred as the warm, bright light fell on my face, fueling the throbbing of my temples. I woke up, my blurry vision making out a male figure in bed next to me. I rubbed my face to enable me see more clearly.
Oh my God. What’s Clark doing in my bed? Where’s his shirt? Did we…?
I felt a splitting headache come on as I wondered what could have led to us being in that position. I groaned and removed his hand from my waist. I noticed I was still fully dressed, boots and all.
Phew. Meaning nothing happened. Okay, what do I do? First, wake him and get him out of here.
I began beating on his back, trying to wake him up. At first, he merely just rolled over to the other side of the bed, deeply asleep. I groaned. Clark help me here!
He managed to rouse after some more slaps and pinches. He sat in bed upright, his groggy eyes trying to make out what room he was in.
“Shit. What am I… did anything happen?” he asked, his eyes wide like saucers.
“Shucks, no. It’s morning already and I don’t even know how we got here.” I grabbed his shirt from the dresser and flung it at him.
“Jeez, I’m sorry if it was awkward, I honestly wasn’t planning to take advantage of you or anything, I promise.”
I rolled my eyes. “Come on, I understand.”
He looked about on the bed finding his wallet and keys. “It was an awesome time with you, yesterday, Vanessa. I’d be leaving now.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. It’s fine. Should I get you some coffee?”
“Nah, I’d just grab some coffee on my way. Thanks a lot, V. And your bed sure is comfy,” he said and grabbed my hand as he stepped out the front door with me trailing behind.
As we got to the sidewalk, I noticed the grey Mercedes Benz that just came to a halt in front of my house, right behind Clark’s red Honda.
Could that be… oh my God. Oh my God.
