“If she’s dead her spells would stop working, right?” Lea asks. “Wait. Can you use me to find my sister, Annetta?”
“Yes, and yes.” Triton glances over Lea’s shoulder. “VP, you okay with me touching your old lady’s hand so I can find her sister?”
The mere thought causes me to chuff with all three heads. Lea reaches for me and her fingers dig into my fur, instantly calming me.
Her voice is firm when she says, “My mate will endure because he wants to find Annetta for me as well.”
She’s damn right, I want my woman happy. Though, I hate seeing another man touch her, even if it’s only her hand. Instead of watching, I scan our surroundings and inhale deep to filter the air. The scent of Drexel still lingers in the air but it’s fading.
“Your sister isn’t here. She’s...moving,” Triton murmurs and frowns. “She’s heading west.”
West. Fuck. I jump into a run to get the space I need to shift back.
Once I’m in my human form, I bark, “He’s heading west. Floraline is west.”
Sevrin crosses his arms in front of his chest. “Why would he go to his half-sister? Would he even know she exists?”
“I don’t fucking know,” I snarl. “Triton would get three locations if he scanned the DNA I had of Drexel. Who knows, the witch could have done the same thing for him.”
My prez pulls his phone from his pocket. “I’m calling Fatal to let him know he might get some company. Then I’m calling Swade to make sure he knows the company might not be fully human.”
Swade is a member of the Nowalk Maryland chapter and is the father of Sevrin’s niece. He’s not fully in the loop about all things supernatural, but he does know his daughter is special in a way that can’t be explained.
“The legend,” Lea whispers, as if she’s saying it to herself.
“What was that?” I ask and step closer to my mate.
Her gaze locks on mine when she swallows hard and starts to ramble, “What if he’s desperate for that screwed up legend to work? You saw my sister, her freaking heart was missing. He incinerated my father this time and took my other sister with him. The witch pinpointing another location might have given him enough details to piece it together that his sister is still alive. If he found out details of who his father was? Then he’d know where he came from, who you are. He’s seen you, knows you’re not the one he shared a womb with. Maybe he’s going back to where it all started, to finish the job or some twisted way to make sure his show no remorse reputation is intact.”
She might be rambling, but my mate is making sense. Which means I have to get my ass to Nowalk before that fucker kills my half-sister, Lea’s sister, and fuck knows who else.
CHAPTER TWENTY
– AZALEA –
My mind is still processing the fact that my sister and father are gone. The only one left is Annetta and even her life is hanging in the balance. Drexel is on some kind of insane power-high-serial-killer journey.
Before I met Karev, I would have said it started when Alora rejected him, but after hearing more details about his fucked-up life? It’s pretty clear the fucker had a screw loose in his head when he came into this world. What baby decides to kill at birth? The kind who doesn’t deserve to fucking breathe among others.
I shift from one foot to the other, my nerves all over the place.
Karev’s warm hand touches my back. “We’ll get her back.”
At this point I want to believe his words and lean on his strength. Yet, a few months ago I couldn’t even think of a possibility where someone could kill my father. He might have barely survived, but it clearly didn’t save him from the inevitable.
The rumbling of bikes pulls my attention to the situation at hand. After we found the dead witch, they placed a few calls while Triton used a map to do some magical tracking system. Since this chapter regularly visits the Nowalk chapter, they know a few shortcuts. This has given us a small window of about fifteen minutes where we’ve managed to get ahead of Drexel.
“What if he manages to slip by us?” I ask Karev.
He gives my waist a gentle squeeze. “If he does get by us and heads for the Nowalk clubhouse? Then he will only find an empty building. Prez called Big Daddy, the president of the mother chapter of the Kings of Anarchy. He’s aware of a pending confrontation of a vengeful fucker we’re trying to eliminate. A few other Kings of Anarchy chapters are standing by for help in case we need it. Fatal’s chapter has left their clubhouse and will return once Big Daddy gives the all clear.”
Other chapters are standing by? I frown, because Fatal’s chapter consists of humans. Even if two of their old ladies have ties to Sevrin’s chapter and have supernatural bloodlines. End of the line...those two are human too.
Which makes me a bit worried. “How could other chapters help if they’re human too?”
“Not all Kings of Anarchy chapters are human. We’re all a part of a huge brotherhood and it consists of a wide variety of brothers. Some chapters are a mixture of supernatural and humans, others completely human and unaware of the fact there’s something more out there. There’s a chapter in Ohio filled with scarecrows that protect their town. Massachusetts has a president who can camouflage, a vampire, and other supernatural members. New Hampshire has an ice dragon. I could go on, but you get the picture.”
Did he really say... “An ice dragon? I’ve read about those.”
