“You must be reading into it. I wasn't flirting with you,” I lie, locking my eyes with hers.

“And now, I know you're a liar.” She laughs and raises her hand to playfully shove my arm. As soon as she touches me, I grab her wrist and hold it in my hands, pulling her closer. I hear her breath catch in her throat as she looks up with her lips parted.

“Would it be so bad if I was?” I whisper, knowing she's hanging on to every syllable. She doesn't say anything right away. Instead, she blinks a few times and remains silent.

My hand rises to her cheek, and I hold it in my palm. This is a bad idea, and I know that. She's my employee. She was only here as a favor to me. She's my best friend’s daughter, and if he knew I was even entertaining the idea of kissing her, he would kill me with his bare hands.

My mind races with those two reasons to back away, but I ignore them entirely and lean down to taste her lips against mine.

This is happening. This is actually happening.

I squeeze my eyes shut tight while parting my lips for Drake to slide his tongue between them. A part of me thinks this is some delusional fantasy. I thought Drake hated me. Apparently, I cost his business millions of dollars, and he hardly pays me any attention at work.

Coming here tonight and cooking for him was all I had in my plans, not feverishly wrapping my arms around his neck while his tongue sweeps over mine. This wasn't supposed to happen. I was supposed to cook a meal and leave. Now, I'm kissing one of my dad's best friends, a man he promised me I could trust. This isn't going to bode well for their relationship.

And that's why I should pull away. I should ignore how firm his body feels against mine. I should erase the memory of the peaks and valleys of his chest from my mind.

But good decisions aren't always the best decisions, nor are they the ones we want to make.

I grab Drake’s collar and pull him closer. He grunts out a laugh when he has to bend over a little too far to reach me. I'm about to pull away and make a comment about being short and needing a little help, but before I can, he scoops me up in his arms and sets me on the counter. Now, we're at eye level, and kissing him is as easy as possible.

“You taste delicious,” Drake says when he pulls away for a moment, pressing his forehead to mine and looking down at my rapidly rising chest.

I laugh and nod toward the desserts still sitting on the counter. “I might have made too many trifles for dessert.”

“That definitely explains the chocolatey flavor,” he laughs before pulling my face back toward his.

His lips are soft and smooth, and his tongue flicks over them, tickling my lips as they part to let him in. I feel frenzied and flushed as the arousal grows between my legs. I want him. I have wanted him since the moment I saw him next door.

Drake's hands fall to my body, lowering to my hips to pull me closer. I spread my legs and wrap them around his waist, desperate to feel more of him. This is a bad idea. He is far from the kind of man I should be considering dating. He's a player, and I know he just wants to use me and move on to the next woman.

But I can't pull away. I never thought I would be one of the girls who would fall for his charms, but here I am. A part of me is ashamed, but then I run my fingers over his chest, and that dissipates.

“There's something we should talk about,” I finally say, pushing him away with all the strength I can muster. “We work together. Well, I work for you.”

“Does that make you uncomfortable?” Drake backs away just enough for me to see the excited bulge growing in his pants. So far, absolutely nothing about him has been disappointing appearance-wise. Naturally, my mind wanders to what he's got going on down there.

“Surprisingly, it doesn't. But I think it could complicate things,” I say, dragging every word from my brain. My body is actively trying to sabotage me. It wants me to shut the hell up and take Drake's pants off, but I’m still yapping away.

“There's also the obvious issue of you being Leonard's daughter,” Drake adds, not moving away. His eyes fall from my face down my body, and I can tell he's undressing me with his eyes. I want him to undress me with his hands, but there's one more thing we need to discuss.

“I'm also a virgin,” I say shyly, looking away.

I know how it sounds: A 23-year-old virgin isn’t common, but I don’t think there is a “right” time to lose your virginity. I've also been very busy trying to make my dreams come true. Hyperfocusing on goals can have a very unfortunate side effect on a love life.

“Oh, wow,” Drake says, looking at me a lot differently now.

“It’s not a big deal to me,” I say, trying to quell any thoughts in his mind. “I mean, obviously I want my first time to be nice, but I'm not expecting rose petals and romance. I have been focused on school and my career, and now I have this job, and there's a clear path to my goal. Nothing is holding me back now.”

He chuckles, squeezing my waist and looking into my eyes. “I worry that you and I are looking for different things. I've never had a girlfriend, and I don’t want one now. If we do this, it would have to be with no strings attached.”

I nod and stare at him, not minding those stipulations. With the dynamic between us, having a secret relationship would complicate things far too much. “And this has to stay between us. If my dad finds out, everyone at work will know, and I know that's not ideal for either of us.”

He holds out one of his hands for me to shake it, and I roll my eyes as I do. Moments after I pull my hand away, his arms are around my waist once again, pulling me close to him as he sweeps me into his arms. I wrap my arms tightly around his neck and squeal as he carries me out of the kitchen.
