His eyes move to the jammer.
Then to the archive box.
Then to me.
“You’re going to let me walk out?”
“Yes.”
That surprises him.
It surprises some old part of me too.
“You’ve spent twelve years wanting me in a room with nowhere to go.”
“I spent twelve years thinking stopping you personally would change what happened.”
I shake my head.
“It won’t.”
Roman studies me with something almost like disappointment.
“You’ve gotten soft.”
“No.”
I hear Piper breathe quietly through the earpiece.
“I finally learned the difference between control and protection.”
Roman’s jaw tightens.
I nod toward the door.
“You can leave.”
“You think this ends with an edited recording and a stolen drive?”
“No.”
I reach down and remove the decoy drive from his coat pocket.
“This ends because everything you came here to destroy was copied before you ever walked through the gate.”
I hold his gaze.
“The safe-house records. The Northbridge transfers. The malware capture. Your archive access. The footage manipulation. This conversation.”
For the first time, Roman looks toward the ceiling.
Looking for cameras now.
Too late.
“And the moment you entered this room,” I continue, “a complete evidence package began transferring to federal investigators through a channel you never had access to.”
Roman’s expression doesn’t break.
