I helped her wash her hair and helped her get to her bed. She walked slowly, and I could tell she was probably sore. Once she was in the sheets, I called Cal.

I slipped down the hallway just a few feet and leaned against the wall while the phone rang.

“Hey.”

“Hey, how did everything turn out?”

“Car got towed away, and we had the sidewalks sprayed down. There are some tire marks, but those will be cleaned too.”

I nodded. “And him?”

“Died on impact. If he didn’t, the blood loss killed him.”

I felt my shoulders relax knowing this would help calm Aubrey.

“His body was brought to the morgue.”

“Thanks, Cal. I’ll connect with you tomorrow.” I slipped back into Aubrey’s room and found her sitting up. She rubbed her fingers together while she waited. Her eyes popped up, meeting mine. “So?”

“He died,” I stated.

I watched her face remain blank for a moment. Her shoulders relaxed a little, and she frowned. “I killed him.”

I shook my head. “No, you survived. You didn’t do anything.”

She swallowed. “I don’t even feel bad.”

“You shouldn’t.” I reached out, rubbing her cheek. “You need sleep.”

She nodded. “Will you stay?”

I felt my heart skip at her words. I nodded, crawling under the sheets. I pulled her close, listening to her breath softly against my chest. She curled her head against my shoulder, and I kissed her forehead.

I don’t remember falling asleep. I remember holding her, thinking how this wasn’t a life I ever thought I’d have. Aubrey felt warm in my arms. She felt like she belonged.

I woke first, finding her still clinging to me even in her sleep. Her body was warm against mine, her legs wrapped around mine.

She looked peaceful as she slept. I think it was the first time I’d seen her so relaxed. I pulled a hand up, moving some of her free hair behind her ear. I stroked her cheek, finding her skin smooth.

She softly moaned, her eyes fluttering open. “That tickled.”

I softly smiled. The scent of her filled the room. I stared into her eyes, soaking in that calm.

“Morning.”

She softly smiled. “Morning.”

I felt her hand move higher on my chest. Her fingers were moving slowly over my skin, and I felt heat course over me.

I cupped her face and kissed her softly. I couldn’t help it. She was finally safe, and we didn’t need to worry. I was relieved.

She softly moaned, her fingers curling around my shirt. I pulled her tighter, my hands grabbing her ass as I pressed her flat. She nipped at my lips, and I gripped her ass harder.

She moaned as I slid my tongue over hers, tasting her like she was made for me. I rolled her, caging her down onto the bed. I slid my knees apart, her legs wrapping around mine.

I slid my hand over his stomach, curling her shirt up. Her teeth scraped over my lip as I cupped her breast, tugging at her nipples. She moaned as I dipped my head down, sliding my tongue over them.

Her nipples were hard as I lapped at them, rolling my tongue over each of them before tugging at them. I moved my head lower, kissing down her stomach. I grabbed the waist of her pants, slowly sliding them down. I watched as she lifted her hips, helping me pull them off.
