Pinching the bridge of my nose, I sighed. “What is this hierarchy about? You were a woman I dated; she is my best friend.”

And if you're asking me to choose, I’d choose Robyn every time.

Since I was in a mood, thanks to her, I added, “And you were still seeing your ex. I didn’t trip about it.”

This was such an inconsequential discussion. Nothing would come of it except unnecessary tension. Lex and I had nothing to rekindle and her coming at me like this was a major deterrent. She just added another reason to why I had to fall back from her.

“That’s different. You know our history and he never made you feel uncomfortable.”

“No reason for me to be uncomfortable. We weren’t serious, you know that.”

She laughed wryly. “I also know that your angel of a best friend has feelings for you. The way she was always bringing you food and calling you all the time. It was inappropriate.”

I scratched my head, unsure how to steer this conversation. The more she spoke, the more her insecurities showed. Robyn made food for everybody. She always gave me enough to share with Lex. Nothing about my friendship with Robyn was inappropriate. It wasn’t until recently that romantic feelings emerged.

“Lex, I ain’t rehashing this with you. So what is it that you really want to say to me?”

She kissed her teeth. “I was hoping things would’ve changed by now.”

I chuckled. “Nope. Still the same ol’, same ol’."

“Whatever, I expect red carpet treatment at Ray’s on Friday.”

Nice save.

“I always make sure my folks are straight.”

She giggled. “Bye.”

Shaking my head, I removed my food from the oven and dug in. Lex was a trip and that argument reminded me why doubling back was never an option. Having had the conversation, I felt lighter knowing she was clear on my stance. After I finished eating, I went back to the couch. This time I put on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, one of my favorite shows. Robyn said it was my comfort show, which I could agree with but would never say. Somewhere between the opening credits and Will learning Ashley could sing, I dozed off.

The feeling of hands sliding up my thighs pulled me from my sleep. Uncle Phil had just confronted the kids about their scheme to get Ashley signed. I didn’t have time to see it all unfold because between my legs was my princess. Robyn was on her knees looking up at me with lust-filled eyes. My eyebrows furrowed as I studied her appearance. A black, thinly-strapped, corset dress hugged her body. I licked my lips at how her breasts spilled over the corset. Her makeup was sexy, dark eyes and red lips. My nostrils flared as I thought about where she'd come from and who she’d been with.

“Are you still mad at me?” Robyn pouted. She rubbed the inner parts of my thigh, stirring heat in my groin.

I smirked. “Yes.”

“Let me make it up to you.”

Robyn stood, reached for my hands, and pulled me from the couch. My mouth crashed into hers and my arms wrapped around her body. She melted into me as our tongues met hungrily. Usually, she let me take the lead, but tonight she controlled the cadence. Her tongue lashed against mine slowly. Once she got her fill, she pulled back and stared at me.

“What’s got you stressed out?”

My eyebrows met. “What made you ask that?”

She reached for my hair, pulling at the bun until my dreads dropped. “You always put your hair in a bun when something's on your mind.”

I smiled. She knew me well.

“I’m not in the mood to talk right now.”

My dick was hard as a rock and she was lucky I didn’t handle her right here in this living room. She seemed as if she already had plans for us. I was trying my mightiest to let her lead. However, my patience was thin and my desire for her neared its boiling point.

“Okay, so let’s do something else.” She took my hand and started toward my bedroom.

On the way, she picked up a bag I hadn’t noticed before. I couldn’t help my smile thinking about her staying the night with me. My eyes traversed her frame; the view was just as pleasing from behind. I trailed her, pressing into her backside. She giggled as we entered my bedroom. I hit the light switch, turning on the banker's lamp on my dresser. Robyn sauntered over to my bed and sat down. She patted the spot beside her, beckoning me.

The moment I sat down, she straddled me. Instinctively, my hands went to her ass while hers went to my hair. She massaged my scalp and temples, causing a level of comfort I’d never felt before. Her jasmine-scented perfume soothed me as I inhaled a deep breath. My eyes rolled back, my chest tightened, and my dick pulsed. She pressed her body against mine until I lay back on the bed.
