Cy steps up to the counter. He seems almost afraid.
“What is all this?”
He picks up a stack of paper and thumbs through it before looking at me.
Walking over to him, I grab his hands.
“Please, don’t get your hopes up. I’d hate for you to do that, and then I’m wrong. But…I think I figured out what you have. Well, at least I’ve narrowed it down to the three most likely candidates.”
The corner of his mouth twitches.
“You think you figured out in one night what doctors couldn’t in years?”
“Yes…yes I do,” I say, smiling as I’m filled with pride. Fuck those doctors. I let go of Cy’s hands and turn back to my bundles. “Which doctor, of all the ones you’ve seen, seems the most likely to listen and want to help?”
Cy crosses his arms.
“Hard to say, but I guess Doctor Stevens. He’s the one I saw after collapsing on stage.”
“Okay…Reno, it is.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re going to call him and book an appointment. Pay whatever you need to, just get in to see him as soon as possible. I’ll tell my father to send us the jet.”
Cy touches my shoulder, and I look up at him.
“Haven, calm down, we can’t just—”
I place my finger on his lips, and he stops, eyebrows raised in shock.
“Do you trust me?”
“Yes…but…”
“No buts. It’s a simple yes or no question.”
“Yes, of course I trust you.”
“Then we’re doing this. Do you feel well enough to pack?”
“Yes…but…”
Cy holds up his hands when I glare at him.
“Okay…okay…I’ll go pack. But first.” He grabs me and pulls me into a hug, kissing the top of my head. “Thank you.”
I wrap my arms around his waist and hold him tight.
“Don’t thank me just yet. We don’t know if I’m right.”
“I don’t care,” Cy mumbles. “The fact that you care enough to try and figure it out…means everything to me.” Pulling back, his eyes shimmer with unshed tears. “You do know that I’m fucking obsessed with you, right, Butterfly?”
My lip curls up.
“As you should be,” I tease, making him laugh.
It is so good to hear the sound after watching him suffer all night and being terrified for him.
