The door slammed open, and the echoing sound of the wooden door connecting with the stone was like a spike piercing through my brain. A soft murmuring of groans around me told me I wasn’t alone. I peeled an eye open. That didn’t help. My brain was fried from too much drink and party pills. I remembered partying way too hard and arriving back to the castle and going to my room…Rook. Shite.

The image in the doorway faded in and out as my eyes tried to focus on who was in my room. The bright blue eyes and black hair of the man standing there made me flop back down. I had no interest in dealing with this shit.

“Whateva ya be sellin’, ya can get tae fuck,” I mumbled and rolled over to find my face in someone’s ass crack. Blinking again, I shrugged. At least it was a nice ass crack. I’d woken up to worse.

“We need to talk.” Rook’s voice was deeper than I’d expected, and I hated that it pulled at me.

“Naw, we dinnie ‘ave ta talk,” I drawled. “I be tellin’ ya to fuck off. Now get out. Me head hurts.”

Even with my eyes closed, I could see his arrogant face and feel him glaring at me from the door. Unfortunately, I remembered stumbling into his room—my old room—last night and the feeling of seeing him for the first time.

“Oh, for shit’s sake.” I groaned when Rook didn’t leave. “Lassies, it be time ta go.” I smacked the one closest to me on the ass, and she yelped, then giggled.

“Why he naw just join us? He’s total lush,” Caitlin said, her head rising from the far end of the bed. Caitlin was right. He was fucking sexy, but that was beside the point.

“Not a fuckin’ chance. Go on now. Get out.”

There was a collective groan as the four women—only two of whom I knew the names of—slowly got up from the bed and fumbled around to find their clothes. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and held my aching head. It felt like it would split open at any minute.

The door closed, and I stood as naked as a newborn babbie and made my way across the floor to the closet. I could feel Rook’s eyes on me. It pissed me off and heated my skin all at the same time.

“What do ya want?” I growled, grabbing a black T-shirt and pulling it over my head.

I could’ve covered up my cock first, but I wanted him to see what he was never gonna get to touch. I was an arse like that. It brought a scrap of satisfaction for being dislodged, demoted, and rejected all in a single breath.

“It’s obvious you don’t want anything to do with me any more than I want to do with you,” Rook said.

I turned around and leaned against the corner of the closet crossing my arms over my chest. “Is dat so?”

“Yeah, it is. Can you put some fucking clothes on?”

Instead, I wiggled my cock back and forth. It hit the sides of my thighs with a slap. “Here, an’ I thought you said ya weren’t interested?”

“I’m not.”

“Aye,” I chuckled. “News flash, mate, yer standin’ in me room and starin’ at me cock, which tells another story.” Reaching into the closet, I pulled out a simple black kilt and wrapped it around my waist. “Just go home. I dinnie want ya here, Rook.”

“I wish you’d speak normally,” Rook said.

The anger that had already been simmering spiked as I fixed him with a glare. “Really now? Well, in case ya hadn’t caught on, yer naw home nea more. Dis be me home and me country, and maybe I’d like fir you to fuckin’ speak normal.”

I stepped in his direction and clamped down on the instant connection beginning to form from the chosen union. I was having none of it.

“Run along home Rook. Like me said, I dinnie want ya here and me knows ya din’t wanna be.” I pegged him with a hard stare. “I dinnie even understand why ya be here disrutpin’ me life.”

“I can’t. My father forced me to come,” Rook grumbled. “Fucking prick.”

Walking past him, I knew we were the same height without having to give him a good look. I liked that and hated that I liked it more. My hand paused on the door handle, and I shot Rook a glare over my shoulder.

“At least ya be havin’ a father dat is lookin’ out fir ya. One day dat won’t be da case, and me hopes ya din’t regret da words ya speak,” I said, the anger simmering in my tone. “I could only wish me father be alive.” Stepping out of the room, I wandered down the hall. The cold stone felt good on my sore feet. Way too much dancing last night.

“Where are you going? We’re not done talking,” Rook said and began to follow me.

I was getting the impression that people didn’t say no to this guy much. The entitled and self-righteous air around him reeked worse than my last night’s socks.

“Me head is needin’ a coffee, and me needs a truck-load a grease ta sop up da shit me drank last night. Dis is no happenin’ right now, I cannie take yer shit.”

“My shit? How is this solely my problem?” Rook asked, and the frustration oozing off him made the corner of my lip curl up.
