“Yes, Riker.” She grinned as his eyes flared with the same passion she was feeling.
“Say my name again.”
“Yes, Riker!”
With a single movement, he thrust himself up into her and her breath caught in a gasp in her throat. “You feel so good,” she cried out.
He pulled out and slammed home again, and her strung-out body was so taut that she crested the peak and tumbled down the other side of her orgasm on his third thrust. Her arms shook as she panted out his name again. With every thrust, another small climax burst inside of her until her legs couldn’t hold her up any longer—it was Riker’s hands alone keeping her on her feet. The water had cooled and was beating down on her heated skin, creating a sensual mix of hot and cold along her skin.
“Fuck Minny!” Riker growled out.
The sound had a direct line to her heated core, and she screamed as she came harder than she ever dreamt possible. As her walls clenched down around Riker, he came a moment before she yanked a little too hard on the flimsy shower curtain, and they tumbled out onto the floor with a resounding crash. Riker had somehow maneuvered himself to take the brunt with a loud thump and thud with her sprawled on top of him.
“Is everything okay in there,” Penny called out from the other side of the door.
Minetta pushed the shower curtain off them and stared into Riker’s face as they burst out laughing at the same time.
“Yeah, we’re fine,” she called out to her friend, which only enhanced her laughter.
“Well, I can honestly say that has never happened before.” Riker pulled her up so she was lying fully on his chest.
“I’m sure it hasn’t.” She kissed his chin and then wiggled up so she could capture his lips. “Thank you, I really needed this.”
Riker’s eyes were soft as they stared back at her, and her heart swelled with emotion as she stared into his amber depths. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. “Anything for you, Minny, not that fucking you senseless is really work.”
She smacked his arm as he kissed the top of her head. “Come on, we better get in the shower and use what’s left of the water before it turns ice cold. I still have that surprise for you.”
As he helped her stand, she realized that she was falling for this man, demon…archangel. Whatever and whoever he was, she was falling hard, and that prospect terrified her.
I couldn’t remember the last time I was this nervous about something. My legs and hands were jittery as I drove Minny to the surprise I’d arranged. She seemed better after the shower, but she’d withdrawn in on herself once more as time passed. I glanced over at her and could just make out her reflection in the glass, her face was placid, but her eyes made my heart hurt. There was so much sadness staring back at me. It was the same look of despair and loss that Shilo had given me when we’d been tossed out of Heaven. The old angel had lost more than I had that day. Not only had his son died, but he’d been ripped away from his wife and daughters, banished from ever seeing them again.
I glanced over at Minny again, and I had to wonder how he got up and worked for me every day. My anger burned brighter for him than it had for myself.
I turned the final corner to our destination, and Minny’s brow furrowed as she stared at the hospital entrance.
“Riker, why are we at the hospital?”
I wiped my hand on my pants, the strange ball of nerves worsening until I would have sworn that Luci’s stupid little angels were flitting around in my gut. “This is where your surprise is.”
“My surprise is in a hospital. Why am I suddenly worried?” The suspicious look on her face made me laugh.
“I swear, it’s nothing horrifying. Do you think demons only do terrible things?” I teased as I reached over and gave her knee a squeeze. I wouldn’t tell her that the percentage was skewed toward a yes as she smiled back.
“I told you I don’t see you that way.”
“Not many would agree with you, but this is not about me.” I wheeled into one of the only spots left and shut the car off. Why did they never have enough parking in the one place it was sure always to be full? “Are you ready?”
“I guess. It’s hard to be ready for something when I don’t know what I’m to be prepared for.” She looked up at the bright blue letters and red cross. “But I am intrigued.”
Smiling, I jumped out of the car and made my way around to help her out of the low vehicle. She looked so pretty in her summer dress, the blue flower pattern a perfect match to her eyes. I held out my hand and walked her toward the front doors. The glass double doors opened as soon as we were close enough, and the sudden burst of cool air had Minny shivering beside me.
We stepped into the lobby, and as with all hospitals, the place was humming with activity. There was certainly no shortage of sick, mean, and stupid humans. I spotted the inconspicuous sign I was looking for and wandered along the corridor, her hand in mine. Being around Minny was like experiencing Earth and the people around me in a whole new way. She’d randomly stop and talk to people she didn’t know and would smile and wave at others. An elderly lady stood leaning up against the wall in obvious distress, and no one noticed but my Minny.
She let go of my hand and helped the older woman sit in a wheelchair. I stood there in shock as Minny pushed her over to the nurses’ desk and told them off in her soft, direct manner. I wouldn’t even have noticed that there were people here unless they got in my way or had something I wanted. But she had a gentleness that reminded me of someone I used to be, someone who burned to ash as a meteor would when I fell from home. I smiled as she bent down, picked up a teddy bear, and jogged after the mother and little girl, who had dropped it. The mother and child smiled brightly when she handed the stuffed bear back.
“Sorry about that,” she said, her voice a little breathless. I couldn’t stop staring at her, a disease that was worsening the more time we spent together. “Is everything okay? Do I have something on me?”
I laughed as she looked down and smoothed her dress. Cupping her delicate cheeks in my hands, I laid a chaste kiss on the lips I’d never grow tired of. “I watch you, and I see the world through a whole new lens. One that sees everything with a rosy view.”
