“We’ll do a dry run on Wednesday,” Brax said. “That gives each of us the weekend and early next week to prepare and gather any tech or tools we need. I’ve got a source who can get us the schematics for the Gleason Center’s security system, so Sabrina and I will go walk the Center tomorrow evening after we’ve had a chance to review them.

He looked at her for confirmation, and she nodded.

“I’ve got a source who can get us uniforms that match on-site security,” Cami said. “And I may be able to get a list of which security guards have been selected to work the gala.”

“That would be a coup,” Jorge said. “Knowing how many and where they’ll be stationed can help us map the plan.”

Darrin stepped forward. “Let me toss a monkey into the wrench.” He looked at each of them in turn. “We know the Sisters are coming to the gala from Kingston Wolfe’s private vault. And we know where he lives. All we need to learn is who’s transporting them and the route. Then we swoop in and snatch them.”

Jorge shook his head. “I don’t know. Disabling security on a display case in a center that’s not even set up like a museum is going to be much easier than breaking into an armored car.”

“True, but Wolfe lives in the canyons. We’ll have stretches of road with very little traffic, especially since the transfer will likely take place pre-dawn.”

“It’s not a bad idea,” Jorge said.

Brax caught Samantha’s eye. She shrugged. So did Cami.

“Alright, let’s give it time to gel. Everyone, map out a plan if we go with an in-transit heist. We’ll meet tomorrow and make our decision. Meanwhile, let’s finish the briefing for the original plan.”

Everyone agreed, and he quickly worked through the agenda, making sure everyone knew their roles and what needed to be in place before the gala. “I know two weeks can feel like forever, but it will be here before we know it. Cami, have at least three possible getaway routes mapped by tomorrow.”

She nodded. “And we need at least two rehearsals, no matter which plan we go with.” She looked at all of them in turn. “I heard about last time. Nothing can go wrong this go-round.” She aimed a sharp look at Samantha, who picked up the thread.

“I’m probably an idiot for doing this. Any one of you could have planted that bomb.”

“Or you could have planted it yourself,” Cami says.

“Excuse me?” Samantha snapped.

“What the hell?” Brax asked. “Why would she do that?”

Cami shrugged. “To get out of a bad situation.”

A hot wire of fury cut through Brax. Not only was this not something they’d rehearsed, and the very idea that Sabrina would either kill herself or fake her own death was ridiculous. Especially since, by Cami’s definition, he would be an integral part of the “bad situation.”

Cami looked from him to all the rest of them. “Point being, it could have been any one of you. None of us know the why. Which means it could happen again.” She shrugged casually, as if she hadn’t managed to push the buttons of everyone standing in that circle. “I’m just saying we all need to be careful. And we need to trust each other.”

They wrapped the meeting quickly after that, and Darrin and Jorge drifted away. Cami was about to follow, but Brax held her back.

“What the hell, Cami? What. The. Hell?

Cami tugged her arm free. “You’re not at the top of your game, Brax.” She shot a quick look to Samantha, silently telling him that she knew why he was supposedly off.

“Dammit, Cam—”

“She’s not Sabrina. She’s Samantha—no, just listen. She’s Samantha, but they don’t know that. They think she’s the real, authenticated Sabrina. To them, Sabrina really did survive. And if that’s the case, then she was either the luckiest person on the planet or she had warning and got out.”

“Shit,” he said, following her train of thought.

“And if I came to that conclusion, then so will they. We need to lay it out there. We need to tell them which it was. Otherwise it will fester and they won’t trust Sam … and by default you or me.”

“I must have had a warning,” Samantha said. “That kind of luck’s not believable.”

“Then who tipped you off?”

They all looked at each other.

“Tim,” Brax finally said. “He’s the only one that makes sense. And since he’s dead he’s not going to argue.”
