When they all went to say ‘rats’, she stopped them.
“I’m not an idiot,” she said, laughing. “I know it’s not rats. It’s the damn ghosts.”
There was laughter from somewhere, and she knew one thing. None of them had laughed.
Oh, boy.
This place needed a de-infestation of spooks, ASAP. There was no way she could let Gabe come here to be haunted. He’d bust her ass for the rest of her life.
Since they had manual labor to do, Michael got up, and kicked back his new cup of coffee.
Then, he shared the plan.
“I’ll get the shovels. It looks we’re digging the old dead dude back up again.”
Why did he sound like an absolute lunatic saying that to them?
Because he was.
“Everyone be ready for that nasty spirit to be up our asses when we manhandle his bones, and that’s not nearly as kinky or fun as it sounds.”
Ethan lifted a brow.
“Wait. You think Oison will be set free and start haunting the castle again?”
Oh, he didn’t think it.
In this castle?
HE KNEW IT.
That was their luck.
Chapter Fifteen
The Grounds
The Dig
Mid-Morning
By the time that they’d headed out, after saddling up the horses, and getting shovels, it was later in the morning. They’d hoped the weather would change, but it hadn’t gone their way.
Outside, the world was still gray and dismal. Welcome to October in Scotland. That was for damn sure.
There was a breeze in the air, and the gray sky looked ominous like it was going to be snowing sooner rather than later.
That would be cold and miserable.
Also, they hoped that the ground wasn’t as frozen as it could be, or this was going to be a fruitless trip though the property.
Oison, and Ceit’s heart, would be in that grave until next year’s spring thaw. That also meant the castle was going to be spook-filled until then.
And no one wanted that.
They needed to be ready for Christmas, and when the castle was opened for business.
Riding the trail was the only highpoint at that moment. As the wind whipped around, at least they had the horses to keep them company on the trek to the other side of the estate.
