I slid my tongue against hers. Her breath caught, but she did not pull away. Her fingers tightened around one of my horns instead.
I'd never felt anything like it.
Heat surged through my body. I deepened the kiss, closed my eyes, lost myself in her. Rain was falling on us in sheets, but I did not care. I was on fire and every time her lips crushed against mine, the flames leapt higher.
I pulled her even closer against my body. She groaned softly and I let her go immediately.
Cloch. I should have taken better care of her. She was injured and here I was kissing her rather than giving her the care she needed.
“Why are you stopping?” she moaned, her eyes dark and unfocused.
“You have just survived a collision,” I reminded her. “And now we're standing in the rain. You are getting wet and cold. I need to get you to a safer place.”
“You're not flying me anywhere. Not again.”
We'd have to deal with her anxiety at some point, but not now. I wanted to share the joy of flying with her, that feeling of infinite freedom. I wanted to take her to places she could never reach on the ground. And I wanted to fuck her in the air.
Cloch. I was hard beneath my wet battle wrap. Her stroking my horns had made me crave her even more.
“Kiss me again,” she demanded. Her fingers wandered dangerously close to my horns again. If she touched them, I was done for. I'd do whatever she wanted.
“You're hurt.”
“That doesn't mean I don't know what I want.”
My tail tightened around her ankle. “What do you want?”
She looked up at me. There was fear in her scent, but it was fading beneath the warm sweetness of her desire.
“Life is too short,” she said. “Today could have ended very differently. I don’t want to keep waiting because taking this slowly seems sensible.”
“When we get home,” she continued, “I want you in my bed.”
I froze as her words echoed in my mind. I needed to be certain I had understood. Human expressions continued to confuse me, and this was too important to risk a mistake.
“All of me?”
Her gaze travelled across my horns and fangs, down my chest to the battle wrap. Then she looked at my wings and the tail curled possessively around her leg.
Her cheeks flushed.
“All of you.”

My cottage was warm, dry and safe. We’d had to contact Pam again to send someone to collect us. She’d complained a bit, saying that we weren’t even clients of hers, but had agreed to arrange for my car to be taken to the garage. In return, we’d agreed to meet her tomorrow for what she’d called some ‘simple tests’.
The woman who had collected us in a Hot Tatties branded car had given us some dry robes to warm ourselves. She'd also waved an alien-looking scanner over me and announced that I had bruised ribs, a shallow cut and no damage to my brain. Cairn had made her repeat the last part twice. I suspected he’d been hoping for an explanation for some of my decisions.
I was doubting myself a little. I'd met this guy, this gharrgoil, yesterday morning. Now I was about to take him to bed. And for some reason, I didn't see a problem with that. I knew on some level that this wasn't just normal sex. It was more serious than that. It was a commitment.
Why on earth was I willing to do this when I barely knew him? I'd kissed him, given him my blood, kept him close so he wouldn't turn to stone. Why would I do all that for an almost stranger and an alien at that?
Love, a tiny voice inside my head said. But that was ridiculous. People didn't fall in love after thirty hours.
But we were mates. I accepted that now. I had woken up this morning and had known where Cairn was without opening my eyes. I felt some sort of connection to him, one that was too strange and alien to put into words. And I felt like I knew him. Yes, I knew almost nothing about his life, his family, his aspirations and hopes and dreams. But I knew what he was like. The rest could come later. Deep inside, I knew that he was the gharrgoil for me.
