His memories of me warm my chest. I tuck those memories into the darkest corner of my chest. Why try to remember them when that life is gone? In the blink of an eye, I was standing in a stranger’s home. A bare minimum of my belongings, and as time passed, I kept fewer of those memories.

I open the front door, coming in from my evening jog. I decided not to train at the gym with Carlos today and just run. I stand in the kitchen in my sweaty clothes. My father tosses items in the blender. In my kitchen. Whistling. The blender is on, and the TV is on with a Spanish soap opera. It’s been years since I’ve seen a novela. I think it was when my mom watched.

The blender screams like a jet engine, drowning out the TV where a woman in a white dress slaps a man’s face. I blink. The last time I watched a novela, my mom sat on the couch, with a snack in hand. My dad’s silhouette moves in the kitchen light. He pours something into a large bowl, wrist rotating.

He lifts his head. “Max, how was your run, mijo?”

“Good,” I respond, crossing toward him. He opens a bag of tortilla chips. I glance into the bowl at the salsa he made.

“Have a taste,” he offers.

I dip the tortilla chip in and take a bite. My eyebrows rise. Holy shit, it’s good but hot. Very hot. “Jeez, ¿estás tratando de matarme?” Are you trying to kill me? I fan my mouth. I can feel my face heating up and sweat collecting on my forehead. I reach for the nearest cup, which happens to be my dad’s coffee mug.

My dad rolls his eyes. “I’m not trying to kill you. Dramático.”

“Me dramatic? What did you put in it? Did you add a ghost pepper?”

“No, I added ten serranos.”

“My mouth is numb, but it’s good.” The cool water relieves my burning tongue as I run the faucet on it.

“Ay Dios, your mom is probably rolling in her grave laughing at how ridiculous you look.”

“Probably.”

He eats like it’s nothing, dipping chip after chip. His ass is probably going to be on fire later. I snort.

“What?” he asks.

“Nothing,” I answer, grinning, and I make my way up the stairs.

Opening the door, I find Sol lying on the bed, studying. I should buy her a desk and put it in my office. We could fit both of them in there. Damn, as much as I want my dad sober, I wish he wasn’t here so I can bend Sol over in every room and have wild sex where she screams my name. Unfortunately, I’ve been covering her mouth for the last couple of days. The second she sees me walk in, she sets her textbook down. She sits up a little, fixing her shorts that rode all the way up her thighs. She’s always been beautiful, but now it’s like the air is knocked out every time I walk into a room with her in it. It’s the beauty of her carrying our baby and the start of a family.

“Have I told you today how beautiful you are?”

She chuckles, standing. “You have…once or twice…but you haven’t in Spanish. That’s my favorite. It sounds sexy coming from that hot mouth of yours.”

“Don’t move. I’ll come to you.” I wet my lips. “Eres la mujer más hermosa de este universo.” My steps are calculated as I get to her. Her eyes fill with a lick of lust that travels down my body. I whisk her hair back. “Maybe I should talk to you in Spanish all the time if it gets you eye fucking me,” I whisper in her ear.

“Does it make your dick hard?”

“You wanna touch it to find out?” I take her hand and rub it on my hard-on.

She squeezes, making me groan in pleasure. “It feels a little soft. Semi-hard.” She shrugs. “Jealousy makes you harder.”

I half laugh. “Says the person who busted my window, then kissed me so desperately… claiming me.”

“Says, the man who threw flowers at the professor in his office, then punched him.” She shoots her brows up. “Rumors are all over campus.” She keeps rubbing my balls mindlessly.

“Baby, either stop the grabbing or rub your pretty face all over them.” She drops her hand. I give her a half-ass shrug. “I should have done more. Like knock his teeth out.” I’m so glad she changed classes.

“Maybe next time, control yourself.”

I hike my shirt off and toss it into the pile of dirty clothes. “I hope there is no next time, but if there is…I’m no golden retriever. I would consider myself more of a…Doberman. I snap at anyone who wants to do wrong to you.” I walk into the open bathroom that connects to our bedroom. “If you want to join me in the shower, I’ll be waiting…patiently.”

Barely enough time for the water to warm up, and there she is, silhouetted in the doorframe, eyes fixed on my naked form through the fogged glass. I’m typically the spectator in this arrangement, but the role reversal sends a pleasant shiver up my spine that has nothing to do with the temperature. She’s such a tease. Slowly, and I mean slowly, she unbuttons her shirt until it falls to the floor. Then her shorts roll down.

“What is taking so long?” I groan, stroking my hard length. Fuck, she’s perfect. I’ll be obsessed with her for a lifetime.
