With that said, he hangs up, and I shake my head.
“He thinks you hate him, you need to fix it,” I begin, and Hayes hums.
“I know, I guess as the months and then years went by, talking became difficult,” he admits, and I nod because I understand more than most.
“He won’t speak to me,” I whisper after a few minutes of silence, “He grunts, he barely looks at me,” I swallow hard, “I feel like he hates me right now for forcing him back here.”
“He doesn’t, he feels guilty for telling you that he hated you when he didn’t. He let his anger out and he gets that from me,” Hayes says softly before he murmurs, “Here,” and hands me a water, and I give him a slight smile before unscrewing the lid and taking a few big gulps, trying to psyche myself up for this conversation.
Going back to Hill Crest, I don’t think it is a good idea but I can compromise and move an hour away from there. Maybe see if I can change colleges or do my courses online, I mean, there’s no ice rink near there but I always knew I wouldn’t get a career in skating.
Maybe Hayes and I could try to be friends? I don’t know how to really let him in further than that right now.
I blink as tiredness hits, my mouth suddenly dry, and I take some more big sips of the water before I mumble, “We need to talk, Hayes,” and he hums, but it sounds underwater.
“I-I, move, Hill Crest, not, no go,” I stumble over my words before I sway slightly, and Hayes quickly wraps his arm over my shoulders, helping me lean against him as my eyes feel heavy.
“Hill Crest, no, no, can’t, hurt, pain,” I continue to stumble as I lay my head on Hayes’s shoulder, everything blurring.
“I, what, I mean, so tired…” I gurgle as I blink, then slowly close my eyes.
“Get some rest, baby, it’s been a hard few weeks,” I just hear Hayes say, his voice different, and I close my eyes as I drop the bottle of water.
His voice sounding far away as he calls for our son is the last thing I hear as I slowly fall into him, a deep sleep, sucking me in.
Sleep, hmmm…
Chapter 21
Crusher
“Cage, this isn’t really a good time,” I say as I answer my phone while pacing the floor, my eyes going to my wife several times, her chest moving gently, her hands handcuffed to our bedpost, and yes, I said ours, and yes, she’s going to fucking kill me.
“It’s church, brother, you don’t really have a choice being the SA and all that,” Cage grunts with frustration, and I wince.
Fuck, I forgot about church…
“You’ve been ignoring everyone's calls, son,” Chains says loudly, “This is one call you cannot and will not miss. You were voted in, every brother wanted you as an officer, so shut up and let’s get on with church, yeah? I want a piece of my old lady.”
“Urgh, Dad, no!” Cage snaps, and I scrunch my nose at that image I did not need in my head before I look at my wife again and mutter, “Okay, fine, as long as it’s quick.”
Cage sighs, “Fine, right, let's get to the run first. There were no problems coming back home, and we’ve made around ninety K. Flame stayed for a few hours before heading back home. The Chargers stayed in their lane, so with what you messaged after your conversation with your wife, Crusher, the fuckers were targeting you.”
Trick continues, “I’ve got a watch on the trailer Alexiana grew up in, as soon as the fucker shows up, we’ll grab him.”
“I can’t believe I didn’t know her dad was a fucking Charger. I spent at least four nights a week there since I was in fucking diapers,” Blaze grunts, and I snap, “Don’t need the reminder, big brother.”
Okay, so big brother just popped out, but what the hell? I don’t need a visual of my blood and my wife sharing a fucking bed, even if it was platonic.
Blaze snorts, “She’s like a sister, chill out, little brother,” and I roll my eyes at the fondness in his tone at my words before I eye my wife again, who is really going to fucking kill me.
Fuck, I fucking hope she wants more kids one day because otherwise she’ll tear my balls from my body.
“The fuckers have been quiet, so keep your eyes peeled,” Cage cuts in, then asks, “Bones, how’s the garage?”
“Business is steady, customers coming in every day to the point that we’re fully booked for at least three months and have had to make a waiting list, and as for the Charger situation, I have an idea, a fucked up one, and I’m currently seeing if it’ll work. If I think it will, I’ll bring everyone in,” Bones answers, and I raise a brow.
Fuckers going rogue? It must be big.
