Chapter 15

Alexiana – Three Days Later

“How is it? He was in a coma, he was intubated, yet they’re discharging him after three days from waking up?” I ask, with a little bit of panic, “We’re going home so quickly, how is that normal?” Clark smiles as she helps me fold up my son's tops, and I ask, “And shouldn’t you be on shift?”

She chuckles, “Miles said I could come help you,” and I scrunch my nose up.

“I still can’t believe you and Trick are married and have kids…” I mutter, and she grins wider.

“I can’t believe you married Crusher and never told me!” she retorts, and I wince then mutter, “Damn Kodi,” making her giggle just as the door opens and Drew, Bell, no sorry, Cage’s wife walks in with CJ, and I smile wide.

The woman has been amazing, but I kind of already knew she was anyway. The woman has a heart of gold.

I met her a few times back in Rose Hill, hated her sister, though, who used to come to the rink and screw Jarrold.

Since we’ve been back in town, she’s pushed herself into my life, and honestly, I’m beginning to see why Cage fell in love with her and the fact that she got him to come home…

Miracle worker, I tell you.

“I’ve come to see if you need a hand,” she says as she walks over, and CJ holds his arms out for me, the little three-month-old, absolutely gorgeous.

I take him without question, causing Kodi to pout, “He’s never like that with me,” and I snort.

“It’s the necklace,” I say, just as his hands go to the ‘mom’ necklace my son gave me yesterday, which I know his father gave him to give me.

The man is playing dirty.

He hasn’t left the hospital since we’ve been here, and the only reason he’s not in here right now is because Kayden begged him to take him for a spin in the wheelchair with Trick.

“Are you really going to go back to Rose Hill?” Drew asks, and I hum.

“I am, I have a job and college, and Kayden, well, I don’t know what we’ll do about his school. Just the thought of sending him back there gives me hives, and I instantly begin to panic,” I admit.

“But you don’t like your job, even I saw that whenever I came to the rink to pick ‘she who shall not be named’ up, and you don’t want to become an accountant which we both know you’ll suck at, you want to skate,” Drew says, and I sigh as I shake my head at her.

It’s the same tune from pretty much everyone who has come to see us, including Hayes’ mom, who begged me not to leave her son again, not to take her grandbaby from her. She then begged me to speak to Linc about letting her in.

Must admit, it’s sweet that she wants to try with him, but Linc, he doesn’t want anything to do with her, and she has to respect that.

“I need to be able to feed my son, Drew,” I remind her, and she scowls.

“You can do that by moving home and being a full-time mama instead of working and skating for fun, or even better, teach skating. I can see you doing that with little kids,” she rambles, and Kodi bites her lip to stop herself from laughing just as I hear, “That actually sounds like a brilliant idea, baby, and I’m pretty sure Crusher would agree.”

I scowl at Cage and threaten, “Don’t make me call you your given name, Mr.!”

The man grins widely, not one bit intimidated by me, which could happen to be because he’s known me since pre-k.

“Call me whatever you want, as long as it means you’ll stay in town.” he says.

I sigh as the girls look away to stop from openly laughing at me, and I look at CJ and mutter, “Daddy is being pushy…”

“Probably because I know you and Crusher belong together, you married him, Alex,” Cage says, and I look his way as CJ places his head on my shoulder. He softens his features and says, “He told you when he gave you your cut that I know for a fact you still have, as well as his hoodie that you probably sleep in,” I scowl at how perceptive he is, but he continues, “That he was going to marry you after graduation. He loved you so much that he knew he wanted forever with you, and you loved him that much in return. You married him a day after he gave you his cut, which I’m pissed I wasn’t at the wedding, and I know Angie will be haunting you over it as well.”

I smile slightly at that, missing that sweet girl so much.

“Ladies, can I have a moment with Alex, please?” Cage says, and I hold CJ closer to me, making him smile and say, “You can keep a hold of CJ,” and I nod, making Kodi and Drew snort.

“We’ll be right outside,” Kodi says, and I give her a small smile as they both walk out, and Cage tilts his head.
