“About what?”

“I got the script for next semester's play. I was wondering if you’d be willing to read it and see what part you think I should audition for.” He looked so hopeful.

Oh. That was pleasantly surprising. But random. “Yeah, of course.”

“And if you have any ideas on improving the play, you can let me know.”

That was even stranger. “Who wrote it?”

“Well. I did. It’s for a class and I had to submit it and it was selected as one of the top three. Now that more people are going to see it, I want a second pair of eyes on it.”

I gasped. “You wrote a play?”

“Well, it’s a short. It’s only one act and one scene.”

It didn’t matter if it was one page. That was amazing! “Still that’s so cool. Of course, I’d love to read it.”

“Thanks.”

He paused. He was probably wondering why I called. Crap.

“So I. I ummm…”

He laughed. “April, I just asked you, a writer, to read my first play. Trust me. You can’t embarrass yourself around me.”

Oh, boy.

“I just don’t know how to start.”

“I’m here for as long as you need but maybe start at the beginning. That’s usually a good place.”

He was so calm. Much more than he was before, but he got his big thing off his chest already.

The beginning. What was the beginning? Before we met? The moment we did?

Yeah. There. “Outside of the cookie dough store.” I blurted and he raised his brows.

“Yeah, where we first met.”

“Exactly. Well for me...it was like love at first sight.” I paused not knowing how to continue. Why was talking to him suddenly so hard?

Crap. He was silent too. His face gave nothing away. What was he thinking?

“The moment I saw you I knew I couldn’t let you walk away. I had to know you.”

He laughed a little. “You were pretty persistent.”

I chuckled then remembered what else I had to tell him. “I’m glad I was. That week was the best of my life. Getting to know you, being with you. It was.... perfect.”

“It was for me too, April.”

I closed my eyes and wished I didn’t have to do this over the phone.

“That’s good. So good, Liam. You’ve changed my life.” I bit my lip and gathered all my courage. I had to do this. I couldn’t let down Sky. I couldn’t lose Liam. “Did you ever notice my necklace?”

“The red one?”

I smiled. He only knew it as red.
