“Hey.” Liam waited until I was looking at him. “I’m just Liam, remember? No looking me up on the internet and fangirling.”
“Do you have videos?”
Eli started laughing. “Just a few.”
“Sophia, we gotta go!” I made to break free of Liam but his grasp tightened.
“Oh, no.” He looked over my shoulder to Sophia. “You have to promise me you won’t let her look.”
Sophia shrugged. “I doubt I can stop her.”
“Fine.” He looked back at me with a serious expression. “Promise me you won’t search my name until I tell you to, okay?”
Why would he care if I did? Was there something bad online? Did he have a criminal past? Was he terrible?
“Stop overthinking. I just want you and I to get to know each other before you see all that.”
“Fine,” I begrudgingly agreed.
“Thanks.” He hugged me and we headed back to the street.
What was he hiding? Was there something horrible to find? Or did he just not want me to lose my mind around him like I had with Dmitry? I mean Zach.
Chapter 17
I woke up with a sense of dread. This was it. My last day in the city. My last day with Liam. Time was running out. I liked him, and after yesterday I was confident he liked me, but was that enough? After I flew home tomorrow, would we ever talk again? How could we fall in love on opposite sides of the country?
“April, I can hear you thinking from here,” Sophia called from the bathroom.
I dropped my mascara into my makeup bag. “I’m spiraling.”
“I can tell.” She leaned against the door frame. “I know you’re running out of time, but things have been going so well naturally. It might seem impossible, but try not to think of the deadline and focus on Liam and making the best of today.”
She was right. I had the potential to ruin the day if I let my panic take over. Things were progressing just fine on their own. I needed to trust in him and me.
“They’re here,” she announced and I double checked myself in the mirror before grabbing my purse and following her out to the hall.
The second I saw him and Eli waiting in the lobby, my nerves disappeared. Liam’s grin brightened when he saw us, and he greeted me with a kiss on the cheek. I definitely wasn’t complaining to starting a day like that.
“Morning.” I smiled up at him.
“Good morning.” He took my hand and we headed out to the street.
“Where do you want to start?” I asked.
Sophia and Eli were walking behind us, lost in their own conversation, so I figured we were safe to take the lead.
“Well, I want to take you to a few places today, but I want to do the Met last. Is that okay?”
“Of course. What are the other places?”
“I thought you’d like to see the public library, the Morgan library, and Central Park.”
Just a few days together, and he already knew me so well.
“That sounds perfect.”
“Is there anything else you want to see? It’s your last day, so I don’t want to take over and have you miss out.”
