“This is why I like this view better.”
I had anything to compare it to, but it made sense. On the top of this building, we were close enough to the park to see, plus we still saw the downtown area.
“I’m never leaving.”
He chuckled, “Well, they close at midnight, so unless you can make it past the security guards, you’ll have to leave eventually.”
“Will the building turn into a pumpkin?” I scrunched my nose.
He looked thoughtful. “Unfortunately, yes.”
I glanced back toward the park falling even more in love with this city. Liam’s arm rested across my shoulders.
“There’s the reservoir at the far end of the park. It was originally used to provide water to the city.”
“I want to go see it.”
It looked enormous from where we were. I couldn’t wait to see it from the ground.
“We can go there tomorrow.”
He looked like he really didn’t know what I would say. I almost laughed aloud.
“You don’t have any classes or rehearsal? I don’t want you to miss anything important.”
“We don’t have rehearsal on Thursdays and Fridays since we have to share the space with another play, and I can get notes on my class.”
“Then, I’d love to.”
His smile made my heart beat just a little faster. Maybe Sophia was right, maybe he did like me.
“This area on the right side of the park is known as Billionaire Row.” He lifted his arm from my shoulder to point. Instead of resting against me again, he stepped behind me and wrapped his arms in front of me. He went on pointing things out and giving me a history of the city, but the words weren’t sinking in. Forget my heart beating faster. It had taken flight and was soaring above the city.
Nothing could have prepared me for this moment. I let my body lean into him while I memorized the feeling of his arms around me, his chest pressing against my back, his voice whispering against my ear, his warmth becoming my own.
I never wanted to leave this moment.
I’d fight off the guards at midnight if it meant staying here with him just like this.
He led me around all four sides, never changing position. I couldn’t stop the laugh that started each time he wanted to show me a different angle. He pointed with one arm and made us move like we were one.
At one point while he was trying to figure out where the UN building was, I burst out laughing. He covered my mouth with one hand while pointing along the horizon with the other.
“This is no joking matter, April. If I can’t find the building it’s an international crisis.”
“How will they know you couldn’t see them?”
“They’re listening to everything, everyone, all the time.”
“Oh, really?”
“Yes, and you not believing me isn’t helping our situation.”
I started laughing again when Sophia and Eli joined us.
“Do you guys want to get some food?”
“What time is it?”
