We agreed and I fell back to let Sophia take the lead, but Elijah fell in next to her while Liam waited for me. It was strange, but I did my best to not show it on my face.
“So, April, tell me more about yourself.” Oh, boy.
“Well, I’m from Beaverton, Oregon. It’s just outside of Portland. Where are you from?”
“A suburb of Boston.”
“Oh.” That surprised me. He didn’t strike me as an East Coast guy.
“Do you know where you’re going to go to school?”
There it was. The dreaded question.
“I’m not sure yet. I’ve visited a few schools, but I haven’t fallen in love with any of them.”
He made a noise between a grunt and a scoff.
“What?”
“I just knew where I wanted to go and what I wanted to study since eighth grade.”
“I wish I did.” I sighed. “My sisters both had their lives planned out since they were in diapers, but I haven’t found where I belong yet.”
He was quiet for a while so we walked in silence.
“What are you interested in?” he asked.
“Writing and reading.” They were the only things I could say with complete confidence.
“What do you write?”
“Mostly short stories right now.”
“Would you consider majoring in creative writing?”
The words entered my mind and sank into my heart. Something about it just…clicked. I stopped walking and stared at him. He noticed and stopped walking, turning to me.
“What?”
“Yes.”
“Yes?” His brows pulled together.
“Yes. That’s it.” My cheeks hurt from grinning so wide.
He shook his head slightly.
“Creative writing.”
A smile tugged on his lips.
“You hadn’t thought about it before?”
“No.” It was shocking, even to my own ears. “In all my research, I never found that.”
“You must not have been looking in the right places.” He did a side step and caught my eyes. “Want to know what school has one of the best programs?”
I nodded excitedly.
