I’d spent too many hours thinking that I might have found him only to lose him again. I never wanted to think that way again, and I never wanted to have to worry that he might have left me alone. I wanted him signed, sealed, and delivered right to my door.
I wanted it to be official.
When I reached him, he took my hand and leaned down to give me a long, bone-melting kiss.
“Do you mind? I believe you’re supposed to save that for the end of the ceremony,” a voice said in my ear. “Don’t try to rob me of my role, now.”
Knight and I pulled apart, laughing, and turned to Gem, who was officiating for us. He looked dashing in a white linen suit, his wounds healed and his face lighter and happier than I’d ever seen it.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard, but we’re not exactly into the idea of following rules,” Knight told him seriously.
We all laughed at that, and Gemini started the ceremony. It flew by—partially because Knight and I had demanded that it be short—and before I knew it we were saying “I do” and exchanging the rings we’d picked out on the big island just last week.
As Knight slipped mine onto my finger, his gaze met mine. “I promise never to leave you alone,” he whispered.
I smiled softly, and replied, “And I promise to always love you. No matter what.”
Those weren’t accidental statements, either. They were the things we’d been telling each other ever since we arrived. Things we’d been promising since the moment when we almost lost each other, and thought we had.
And then Knight was kissing me for real, uninterrupted, his tongue sweeping into my mouth as his hands pressed me up against him, holding me so closely that I could feel the heat of his body seeping through the thin fabric of my dress.
I rose up on my tiptoes, reaching for him, and he scooped his hands under my ass and lifted me, deepening the kiss and groaning softly against my mouth. I wrapped my legs around him, uncaring that my skirt was riding up to my thighs, and rubbed my core against the hardness of him.
The groan turned into a growl and the hands clasping my ass fisted, pinching me, but I didn’t care. I belonged to this man, every piece of me, and if he was touching me, it was out of love and need. Never fear or anger.
His touch had me rocking back and forth on him, unable to stop myself, and within moments I was hot, wet, and ready, nearly crazy with need. Knight must have sensed the growing intensity because he began rocking as well, increasing the friction of his cock against my wetness.
“You two have a room,” someone muttered from behind me. “How about you go use it?”
Knight broke the kiss and stared at me, his chest heaving with barely controlled need, and I stared at him, our looks communicating our thoughts just as well as words might have.
We needed to get into that room, and we needed to do it now. this wouldn’t be the first time we’d slept together—far from it—but it would be the first time we’d made love as man and wife. And we wanted that consummation.
Now.
Knight turned and started walking toward the house, his eye still on mine and his hands clutching me firmly.
“No party?” I asked, glancing quickly at the people we were leaving on the beach. We hadn’t planned anything big, but there was food and plenty of rum back there and we’d meant to celebrate into the night.
“No party,” he growled. “I want you all to myself.”
I grinned at him, pleased beyond all belief at the answer, and started kissing him before we even made it back to the house.
HE HAD TO PUT ME DOWN before he could climb the stairs. No matter how small I was, he was still healing and his knee was still weak. I didn’t care. He was also missing one eye and had burns marks all over his body. That didn’t matter to me. It was the price he’d paid to free me, and I knew he would have done the same over and over and over again.
And he was the most beautiful man I’d seen, regardless. The changes just made him even more beautiful. I wouldn’t have traded him for the world.
I slid under his arm and supported his right side, and we climbed the stairs together, me going slow enough that he could take them one at a time and rest in between.
“When we build our own home, we’re building one without stairs,” I noted.
He chuckled. “Or I can just call you any time I need to climb them, and you’ll have to come running.”
I laughed back. “Come to think of it, that wouldn’t be the worst thing. You’d never be able to go to bed angry.”
He laughed outright at that. “But I could send you to bed without me.”
We reached the top of the stairs and he spanked my ass, sending me forward a few steps. I twirled around and grabbed the lapels of his jacket, bringing him toward me.
