She moved closer, pressing her lips to his, and it appeared her explorations were at an end for the moment as he tumbled her onto her back. He kissed her for long, delicious moments as she revelled in the feel of him, the weight and heat that might have overpowered her and made her nervous. Yet that was impossible with Silas, with his smiles and his soft eyes, and his murmurs of sweet words and encouragement.

His mouth left hers, trailing down her neck and over her skin. She arched up as he kissed her the way he had that day when she’d agreed to marry him—if he asked her again, after her birthday. That day was tomorrow, but she didn’t much care now. Thoughts of revenge and retaliation seemed a long way away, and of much less importance than they ever had before.

Only the present and the future mattered now.

The past wasn’t going anywhere.

“You’re so sweet,” he murmured, against her skin. “I’ve tasted nothing so decadent and lovely in all my life.”

“Not even cake?” she asked, feeling like laughing as happiness bubbled up inside her.

“Not even close,” he said, kissing his way down her stomach and making her eyes widen as he nuzzled the tender skin at the apex of her thighs.

“Ices at Gunter’s?” she said, so breathless now it was hard to speak.

“Never,” he said, his voice firm. “There is nothing else in the world as sweet as you, especially here.”

Aashini gasped as his tongue found her most private flesh, and she couldn’t think of a single thing to say, which was probably for the best. She didn’t want him to have to stop and answer her.

The pleasure was so intense that she squirmed beneath him, uncertain of how to endure it, but his large hands held her in place as the feeling crested and coalesced. Aashini held her breath, aware she was lingering on a precipice, before tumbling over the edge. She grasped as the sheets, feeling as though she might fly away if she didn’t hold on tight, but Silas was there, steadying her, easing her through the waves that gentled now. He kissed and nuzzled her, ensuring he’d coaxed every last delicious jolt from her body before his mouth moved on.

She lay dazed, her eyelids as heavy as her limbs as he kissed his way back up her body, painting soft patterns over her stomach and breasts with his clever tongue.

As he nuzzled into her neck, she sighed and somehow found the strength to raise her arms and put them around him, one hand stroking his hair.

“So lovely,” he murmured, making her gasp as he pressed his arousal against the still sensitive place between her thighs.

She arched in surprise as he slid against her slick heat, and the pleasure he’d conjured sparked to life once more, even stronger than before.

Instinctively, she opened her legs to him, raising her hips, needing him in a way she’d never experienced before. Something inside her clamoured for him, ached for him to fill the emptiness that she only now recognised for what it was.

“Yes,” she whispered, her hands caressing his powerful back.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” he said, concern in his eyes as he positioned himself and nudged gently forward.

“You won’t,” she said, smiling up at him. “I trust you.”

“Tell me if—”

She pulled him down for a kiss and he moaned as he slid deeper inside.

In truth it did hurt, but Dharani had promised her that if she relaxed and trusted her husband, all would be well, so she did. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply, concentrating on the feel of his large body surrounding her, the pleasure of being close to him, and little by little the pain faded.

Silas made an incoherent sound of pleasure so raw that a visceral shock of desire surged through her. Goodness, she wanted him to make that sound again, so primitive and desperate. She moved with him and got her wish, gratified as her own pleasure intensified and she moaned herself, a little startled to have made such a wanton sound.

She looked up as Silas stared down at her, his eyes dark with need, and she realised the sound of her pleasure affected him too.

“Aashini,” he murmured, his voice rough as their bodies moved in concert, the momentum gathering further with each passing moment.

Silas reached down, hooking his arm beneath her knee and opening her further. All at once, the angle was just right and the pleasure grew so intense that she couldn’t breathe. As before she waited, knowing what was to come now, trembling with anticipation of the moment as she clung to him, knowing he was there too.

Silas gave a fierce cry and bucked in her arms, tipping her into the dazzling light that sparked and glittered behind her eyes and in her blood as she arched beneath the weight of him, glorying in the moment, in him and the joy he’d brought her.

He stilled, breathing hard, his skin damp with exertion as they came back to the world by increments. She blinked up at him, still hazy with desire as he gave a startled laugh.

“My word,” he murmured, staring down at her and then grinning like a boy who’d just discovered a full bag of sweets. “My word,” he said again and then laughed as he rolled onto his back, taking her with him.

He shifted a little, so her head rested on his arm and he could look at her. “Are you all right?”
