“You shouldn’t be walking around too much yet,” he said.

“I know,” I replied softly. “But I needed to come here.”

He frowned slightly, studying my face. “Is something wrong?”

I looked at him and felt my chest tighten with emotion. The maps spread across the room were proof that Liam was preparing to walk into another dangerous battle.

And he was doing it for me, for my safety. I realized then that I didn’t want to keep my feelings hidden behind gratitude or fear. I didn’t want to wait for another tragedy to tell him what he meant to me. I wanted him to know.

“I’ve been thinking,” I said.

Liam’s expression softened even more. He reached for my hand gently, careful of my injury, and held it between both of his.

“Tell me,” he said.

I took a slow breath, feeling the quiet certainty inside me grow stronger, and I was no longer afraid to say what was in my heart.

“I’ve been thinking about everything that happened,” I said softly. “About Victor, the old house, my mother, and the way you came for me without hesitation.”

Liam’s expression tightened slightly, as if the memory still hurt him, too.

“You don’t have to thank me for that,” he said. “I would do it again.”

“I know you would,” I replied. “That’s why I need to say this.”

He stayed silent, his eyes fixed on mine.

“You saved me,” I continued. “Not just when you found me in that room, but every day after that. You stayed beside me when I was afraid, when I was angry, when I didn’t know how to face my own past. You fought for me when I couldn’t fight for myself, and you never once made me feel like I was a burden.”

Liam opened his mouth to interrupt, but I shook my head gently.

“Please let me finish.”

He nodded.

“I spent so much of my life believing that love came with conditions,” I said. “I thought people stayed only when it was easy or when they needed something from you. But you stayed when everything was difficult. You stayed when I was broken, frightened, and trying to push everyone away.” My voice trembled, but I kept going. “And somewhere along the way, gratitude became something much deeper. I stopped being afraid of what I felt for you because I realized that what we have is real. It isn’t built on fear, obligation, or rescue. It’s built on trust, choice, and the way we keep finding each other even after everything we’ve been through.”

Liam’s eyes softened, and I saw something vulnerable in them, something he rarely allowed anyone to see. I took another slow breath.

“I don’t want to wait for another tragedy to tell you what you mean to me,” I whispered.

Before I could lose my courage, I gently slipped my hand from his and lowered myself to one knee. Liam stared at me, stunned.

“Nora,” he said quietly.

I looked up at him, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.

“Liam O’Connor,” I said, my voice steady despite the fear and hope inside me, “I’m not asking you to choose me because you feel responsible for me, or because you saved me, or because you think you owe me something. I’m asking you to choose me because you want to build a life with me.”

His expression went completely still.

“I love you,” I continued. “And for the first time in my life, I know that love can be safe, honest, and free. So I’m asking you now, not as someone you rescued, but as the woman who wants to stand beside you for the rest of her life…”

I swallowed hard. “Will you marry me?”

For a moment, Liam said nothing. He simply looked at me as if the world had stopped moving around us. Then he reached down, took both of my hands in his, and helped me gently to my feet.

“Yes,” he said, his voice rough with emotion. “Yes, Nora. I’ll marry you.”
