Epilogue

TenMonthsLater

Mason turned Blue down the driveway, the July sun beating through the windshield. The air conditioning in the truck was doing little to keep the sweltering summer heat at bay, especially considering he currently wore his dress blues.

He had one hand on the wheel, the other on the seat next to him, his fingers entwined with Grace’s. She looked over at him and laughed.

“If you don’t slow down, you’re going to get us killed.”

He smirked, shaking his head. “I’ve got everything under control, love.” He glanced over at her, and the love he saw in her gaze made his chest swell. “Besides, I just want to spend a little time with my wife before everyone else gets here. Is that so wrong?”

She laughed again, brushing her thumb against the inside of his wrist. Goosebumps chased themselves up his arm. She was so beautiful, she literally took his breath away.

Her blonde hair was pulled up in a fancy up do, showcasing the creamy skin of her neck. The lacy, strapless dress she wore left her shoulders bare and highlighted her cleavage. It was all he could do to not pull the truck over right now and lick every inch of exposed skin.

Instead of a veil, she had flowers woven through her hair. She looked like some sort of fairy queen. One who’d stepped directly out of the pages of a storybook and right into his heart.

He groaned inwardly at how revoltingly mushy that was. Thank God he hadn’t uttered the words out loud. He’d never be able to live them down.

Although, honestly, at this point, he didn’t care who knew how he felt about his wife. He was so stupidly in love, he wanted to shout it from the rooftops.

He pulled up to the front of the house. They were the first ones here, which wasn’t surprising, given how fast he tore out of the church parking lot. He got Grace to wait and then jumped out and hurried around to her side of the truck. He threw open the door and lifted her into his arms. She laughed, throwing her head back. He couldn’t resist the temptation and lowered his lips to her throat.

Her skin was salty against his tongue, and he nibbled his way down to her breasts. He was pretty sure if he gave a little tug on her dress, her breasts would spill free. He pressed his lips to the top of her cleavage, and she squirmed.

Yeah, they needed to get inside now, or he was going to take her right here in the driveway, wedding guests be damned.

Mason strode across the gravel driveway, making sure to take careful steps. Thanks to Grace and her magic physiotherapist hands, his thigh was in much better shape. Didn’t mean he wanted to drop his wife in the gravel and humiliate himself.

He climbed onto the front porch of the main house. The house he and Grace were having built on the property wasn’t finished yet, so they were going to be spending the next couple of months living in the guest house.

“What are you doing?” She stared up at him, the hint of a frown pulling down the corners of her kissable lips. “Don’t overdo it or I’ll make you use your cane for the next few weeks.”

“I’m carrying my wife over the threshold,” he said, scrunching his nose at her. “I know it’s not our house, but I want to start this whole thing out right.”

She smiled. “Fine, but I don’t want to hear any bitching when I insist you use your cane, mister.” She gave him a peck on the mouth and then looked at the door. She looked back at him, this time a true frown on her face. “What on earth? Put me down.”

He gave her a matching frown. “What? Why? I told you I was okay.”

She wiggled in his arms, and he had two choices: tighten his grip or put her down. Confused, he did as she requested.

Her feet hit the ground, and she headed for the wooden swing on the end of the porch. He followed her, unsure of what was happening. She bent down, and it was then that he saw it.

There was a baby seat tucked under the swing.

With a baby in it.

Grace cooed and reached into the carrier, lifting the sleeping baby out. Mason stepped up behind her, staring over her shoulder at the little bundle in her arms. The baby woke up, but didn’t cry, just stared up at them with big brown eyes.

Mason assumed the baby was a she, given that she wore a pink something or other and had a white headband with little flowers on it in her dark, curly hair. She had a little blob of a nose, chubby cheeks, and the sweetest little bow-shaped mouth he’d ever seen. Okay, so babies weren’t his thing, but he had to admit, she was pretty cute.

“Well, hello there, gorgeous.” Grace bounced the baby in her arms. “Where did you come from, huh?” She looked up at him over her shoulder and his breath snagged in his lungs.

The sight of her holding the baby sent his insides tumbling into a jumbled mess. His heart expanded, sucking up all the love he had for this woman.

She smiled and indicated the baby carrier with a tilt of her chin. “I think there’s an envelope in the seat.”

Mason stepped around her and bent down to grab it. There was no name on the outside, which he found strange. He tore open the envelope. Inside, there was a letter.
