Now that I feel refreshed, I’m hungry. I expected no one to be downstairs, but I hear the murmur of talking from the lounge that stops the moment they hear me.

“Jayce?” Grandma calls.

Great.

I walk over to the door, shoving my hands in my pockets, keeping my face as emotionless as possible, knowing they know exactly what the fuck happened. My scent would have changed a little, and so would my aura.

A smirk crosses Grandma and Raihana’s faces, and Delsanra smiles.

Yeah, this shit is fucking awkward.

“What?” I say, not even daring to look towards Dad and Grandad.

“You sound grumpy,” Grandad drawls, the amusement clear in his voice.

I glance at him and arch a brow. “Not really, you called so...”

“I did. Are you two hungry?” Grandma asks.

And she just had to emphasise that. “I was going to grab myself something,” I admit. “What are you guys talking about?”

“You and Sienna, actually,” Dad says, and my attempt at changing the topic just did a 360, and now we’re back at the exact same topic I was trying to avoid.

“I think we don’t need to worry anymore,” Delsanra adds lightly, taking a sip of her tea as Grandma chuckles.

“I don’t think we do. Jayce looks good. Can I see the mark?” she asks.

“Has it healed?” Grandad asks curiously.

“Yeah, it has,” I reply, walking over to Grandma and crouching in front of her, knowing they won’t get off my back until I show them.

Both Grandma and Grandad lean forward.

“Red, I like it,” Grandma says with approval.

“It looks good.” Grandad smirks. “I’m sure you wished you had done it sooner.”

I just offer him a blank stare. Then Raihana is hovering over me, examining the mark.

“It’s sexy, just like our Si,” she remarks. Dad and Delsanra don’t get up, but both are smiling.

“Anyone else want to see?” I ask nonchalantly.

Delsanra smiles. “Well, if you don’t mind…” She gets up, and I turn slightly, allowing her to see it.

She’s the woman who birthed Sienna, regardless of anything else, and where we are now, I’d always be grateful to her.

“Beautiful…” She smiles softly before cupping my cheek. Remembering Mom, I look away and slowly stand up.

“I’m going to head to bed, but tomorrow I’ll be able to get back to whatever’s needed. And hopefully find the answers we need,” I say. And while I’m at it, there are some conversations I’d like to have with Dad.

“Well, then, make sure you get some rest,” Raihana remarks teasingly, and I glance at her. She is definitely related to Skyla… and she’s a lot like Azura, too.

Women.

Grabbing a protein bar, I rip into it as I head back upstairs.

Because I shouldn’t leave her alone after the near-drowning incident, nothing more.
