“And for the record,” I murmur, my voice rougher than usual, “I wanted to confess before I saw how devastatingly beautiful you looked tonight.”
Amusement flickers through her eyes despite the lingering heat between us.
“Good to know,” she whispers, reaching up and brushing her lips across my jaw.
Goddess, I fucking love her.
I slowly release her and take a reluctant step back. Her gaze instantly drops to my chest, where her drink stained the front of my shirt.
“Take your shirt off,” she says, holding her hand out. “I’ll clean it.”
I raise a brow slowly. “And you can’t clean it while I’m wearing it?” I ask mockingly.
She blushes. “I could… But I want to at least get to admire my Alpha before he covers up,” she says before she bends down, giving me an eyeful of her cleavage as she examines her right foot. I realise some of her drink got onto her ankle and foot, too.
She’s about to slide off her heel when I bend down and, cupping the back of her leg, slide her heel off. Her heart pounds as she stares down at me, and I smirk before I lean down, raising her foot to my lips and flick my tongue along her heel. The taste of cherries enters my mouth, her heart pounding violently as I continue to trace my tongue over the spill, watching as she bites her lip, and I know if I push aside her dress, she’ll be soaking wet...
“Jayce,” she whimpers, her heart hammering.
Placing a soft kiss on her foot, I return it to the ground and stand up, resisting a smirk as I unbutton my shirt, keeping my eyes locked on her.
Her cheeks are flushed a pretty red, her lips parted as she tries to gather herself.
And I haven’t even fucked her yet.
She steps forward, sliding my shirt off my shoulders, her eyes meeting mine with unbridled desire, and I swallow, clenching my jaw.
“You’re playing with fire, Darling,” I murmur. I’m not the only one who has such an effect. She’s testing my self-control, which is already on the brink of destruction.
“Maybe that’s what I want,” she whispers seductively, snaking her arms around my neck, and the shirt she helped me remove falls to the ground. “The night is young… We can return later.” Her eyes flicker down the side of the house to where the party has just begun.
I look into her red eyes, at the woman she’s become: the confidence she holds, the determination, experience and resilience that have moulded her into who she is today.
I cup the back of her hair, my other hand sliding beneath the slit in her dress, before I cup her thigh and pull her against me.
“I’m sorry,” I whisper, having to say those words before this.
“For what?” she asks softly, concern in her eyes.
“For hurting you, for the way I treated you; it doesn’t fix it, but I wanted you to know that.”
“And I’m sorry for hurting you – for my actions.”
“That I understood was out of your hands,” I say quietly. “I let my own insecurities win, and I won’t deny that fear remains.”
I admit it, even if it makes me less of a man, even if I sound pathetic, I’m unable to stop worrying about her. I don’t want to lose her; I can’t lose her.
“I don’t have the intuition of a certain king, but something tells me we’re going to be stronger than ever together. That fear is normal; I feel it, too. Together or not, I worry about you, too. But that’s a part of love and life. Just remember, you are mine, and I am yours.”
“Sienna is mine.”
We both turn, startled, and look at the little kid who stands there watching us suspiciously.
“Kaden!” Sienna exclaims, her cheeks burning up as she quickly pulls away and grabs my shirt from the floor.
“Why are you naked?” Kaden asks me, crossing his arms.
“His shirt got juice on it, see? I’m going to clean it,” Sienna explains, clearly flustered.
