He…he wanted her.
The knowledge made her dizzy with her own need. Her own desire.
Felíne pushed herself closer, kissed him back with more intensity.
Kal grunted and reached between them, shoving his hand down the front of his pants to readjust himself.
Oh, blessed Goddess above.
A daring thought entered Felíne’s yearn-addled mind, and she rubbed herself against him. Kal groaned into her mouth, kissing her deeper. She did it again.
“Careful, Kitty girl,” Kal said, breaking their kiss. “You’ll be my undoing.”
Felíne wasn’t sure what he meant by that, but she liked the way it sounded. She liked the noise he made when the soft plane of her stomach ground against him, their clothing shifting with delicious friction.
Kal’s hand left her hair and cupped her breast. The calloused pad of his thumb stroked her through her shirt, and the sensation that ripped through Felíne made her gasp. She looked down, shocked, and watched in fascination as her body responded to his touch. Her chest heaved with needy breathing, and her left nipple swelled into a hardened bud, coaxed by Kal’s expert caressing. He brushed his thumb over again, teasing, sending a jolt of heat straight between her legs. Felíne couldn’t stop the whimper that escaped her.
“Fuck, Kitty,” he groaned, hips flexing forward. “If you don’t stop me, I’m going to take you right now. Right here. Damn your brother. Damn the consequences.”
“Take me…where?” she panted. Her head was hazed with lust. Her body wound tighter than a spanned crossbow. Felíne had the strangest coiled pressure in her belly, like a metal spring compressed further and further with each pass of Kal’s thumb, and each sweep of his tongue in her mouth. She squirmed, not knowing how to relieve it, caught between wanting more and needing it to end.
Kal leaned back, and she groaned. No, she wanted him closer, not farther away. Through the heady fog in her head, Felíne realized he was watching her more closely than he’d been just moments before.
“Kitty,” he said, swallowing. His fingers stilled, palm cupping her breast. “Have you ever been with a man?”
She frowned, body still thrumming with heat, mind still clouded with need. “Of course,” she answered automatically. What a silly question. “You’re a man. I’ve been with you for days now.”
Kal sank back on his heels and ran a hand over the stubble on his face. His dark curls were disheveled, the sides still shorn, but longer, making the designs at his temples appear fuzzy rather than crisp. His mouth glistened where she’d kissed him, and his eyes were shot through with gilded bands.
The fog of desire started to seep out of her mind, the cool breeze of logic creeping in at the edges.
“Shit, Kitty.”
Sex, you twit. He means have you ever been with a man.
The realization of what Kal was asking, and where they were headed, slapped her.
If you don’t stop me, I’m going to take you right now. Right here.
“Oh, gods.” Mortification erupted in a crimson wave, filling her face. Felíne covered her shame with both hands. What in the name of the Goddess was happening to her?
Kal eased onto the balls of his feet and touched her forearm, tugging her hands away. They stood.
She couldn’t look at him as she spoke. “Gods, I’m sorry. I’m so embarrassed.”
Kal’s fingers gently gripped her chin, forcing her flustered gaze to meet his steady one. The gold had receded, but a few streaks remained, refusing to fade into the black of his irises. “You have nothing to be sorry for,” he said, voice firm. “No reason to be embarrassed.”
“I completely lost control of myself,” she stammered. “I don’t know what happened. I…”
Kal grabbed her hand, and she inhaled sharply as he pressed it against the front of his pants. He was still hard. “Does it feel like I’m sorry?” His voice was a guttural growl. “Don’t think for a moment that you did anything wrong. Damn me, but I want you.” He let her hand fall away after a heavy second. “But I’d be a fucking brute indeed if I took your innocence in the cold mud in one moment and then delivered you to your brother in the next.”
Felíne didn’t know what to say. What could she?
Kal blew out a breath, seeming suddenly weary. He stepped closer to her and pressed his lips softly to her forehead. “Tell you what,” he said. “Let’s get you into town. You’re going to see your brother, get cleaned up, eat a solid meal, and get some rest. Give yourself some time to settle in. Once that’s done, if you still want…” The strong column of his throat bobbed as he trailed off. “Well, we’ll see.”
That was the problem, Felíne thought. She didn’t need to wait and see. She already knew what would happen, and that knowing fractured the fragile layer of bliss they’d annealed around themselves.
The only question that remained was whether or not she’d still be around to collect the pieces once it all finally shattered.
