“Your Lucky Duck’s gotta high-tail it to the bathroom,” I say, settling back onto my feet.

“We can come with you,” Beck offers.

“No, it’s okay, really,” I say, smiling reassuringly at him. “The only bathrooms here are downstairs. And I wouldn’t want to cause a stampede if people noticed you were here tonight.”

He pouts, but he eventually agrees.

“Fine, I’ll just go nurse another drink over there with Mr. Party Pooper while you’re gone.”

“Let me come with you, then,” Leo offers, walking me to the stairs.

“I’m a big girl,” I huff.

“And I want to take care of you regardless,” Leo says.

His sweet words have me nearly missing a step.

“Fuck!”

Before I have a chance to go tumbling down the rest of the staircase, Leo’s arm swoops in around my waist and keeps me from eating shit.

I blink up at him with wide eyes.

“Looks like I’m sweeping you off your feet tonight, huh?” he teases.

“Shut up,” I say, slapping his chest when I finally get my feet under me.

Something prickles at the back of my mind, and I turn, staring down the rest of the staircase.

People mingle at the bottom, dancing and drinking, but no one in particular is watching us.

I can’t help but feel like someone was though.

“I’ll be fine, promise,” I say, flashing him a reassuring smile. “See you soon! I’ll be right up. I’ve got my phone on me just in case.”

His brows draw down in concern, but before he has a chance to make another compelling argument, I’m headed down the rest of the stairs.

Strangely enough, there’s literally no line to go to the bathroom.

Maybe I am a lucky duck!

The thought dies the moment I step foot outside the bathroom and meet the intense gaze of a man.

An alpha.

From the intensity of his smoky cedarwood scent? An angry alpha.

“Andromeda Sterling,” he growls, his lip curling back in disgust.

The expression draws my attention to the sharpness of his jawline. Some of the purple and blue lights shine into the dark hallway, creating an ethereal glow on his dark skin that would be more appealing if he weren’t so pissed looking.

It reminds me of the way I couldn’t help but notice Elijah’s beauty, despite the fact he was ready to blow a gasket when he met me.

But not all handsome men are Elijah. Sometimes they end up being Ezra and I don’t want to end up with my head slammed onto any more hard surfaces.

And in that moment, I regret not taking any of the guys up on their offer to come with me.

Because now I’m alone in this back hallway of this club, being stared down by an angry alpha I don’t recognize, but who very obviously knows me.
