“Ok, well, Chopper wants me to get you back to the clubhouse. Let’s go, then I can come back with some other guys and get this place cleaned up.”

“No. Someone might be in here. We need to search the place before we go. If they’re still in here, they could destroy the entire place before you get back here. No one is destroying my bar.” I fold my arms across my chest and stare him down.

“Fine, I’ll search the place. But go outside, Chopper will kill me if someone’s in here and you get hurt.”

I roll my eyes, but listen to what he says. I don’t want to be here. I feel like the hairs on the back of my neck are standing on end. Like someone is watching me.

I pace around the lot next to the dumpster, impatiently waiting for Lionel to come back out. I'm getting more and more anxious the longer I'm out here.

“How long does it take him to check a bar? It’s not that big,” I grumble.

“Probably pretty long when you get knocked out.”

I spin around at the unfamiliar voice, but before I can see him, I get hit with something in the head. I tumble to the ground as boots move closer to my face. I try my hardest to get a look at the man’s face, but another blow to my head has everything going black.

Chapter 24

Chopper

“Hello?” I growl into the line. I'm still ten minutes away from the bar. I’ve hit so much traffic because of an accident on the highway.

The longer I don’t know what’s going on with Roxy, the more anxious I'm getting. I’ve never heard her sound as scared as she did when she called me. It kicked all of my protectiveness into high gear.

“Man, I just got here… Lionel’s knocked out on the floor and Roxy’s nowhere to be seen,” Jasper blurts out.

I can hear the panic in his voice and the worry, but he’s got nothing on how I'm feeling right now. My stomach is twisting and turning. If she’s not there, someone could’ve taken her or hurt her.

“Did you see anyone on your way there? Drive past anyone that seemed to be out of the ordinary?”

I'm frantic, wishing I was there with him. I’d be scouring that entire bar and parking lot, looking for any clues as to where my girl is.

“Actually… yeah. I saw a white van swerving in and out of traffic on my way here. It was headed towards Sinners’ territory. I’ll head that way, but I'm leaving Lionel here. I don’t have time to deal with him.”

“Ok, I'm close to Sinner’s Ink. Can you check the video cameras before you leave the bar? Then can you meet me at Sinner’s Ink? Snap photos of anyone you see on the video feed.”

“Yeah, of course… Are we even allowed to go there?” There’s hesitation in his voice and I can’t say I blame him.

“I'm friends with River Dixon. It will be fine. I’ll call ahead and let him know to expect us, then I’ll call Porter. I’ll see you soon.”

After ending the call with Jasper, I quickly call River and give him a quick rundown of what’s going on.

“Yeah, no problem, man. You can set up shop here and I’ll make sure no one bothers you. Once you have a picture of the guy, let me know and I’ll get my guys to start looking for him.”

“Thanks, River. I owe you.”

“Nah, I know you’d do the same if I had a girl and something like this happened to her. My dad and Porter have always been close. They respect each other and I know my dad would be on board with helping get a Reeves daughter back too.”

“I’ll be there in five. I have to call Porter and let him know his daughter is missing.”

“I don’t envy you in the least. That’s going to be a tough call. Stay safe and I’ll see you soon.”

As he disconnects the call, I make the last phone call I’d ever want to make. Porter picks up on the fourth ring, right when I don’t think he’s going to answer.

“What’s going on?” He asks quickly. He knows I'm supposed to be working so any call I put out to him right now has to mean trouble.

“Someone took Roxy,” I growl, pushing down on the accelerator a little harder.

“What do you mean someone took her? Where was she?” Porter’s voice is muffled as he says something to someone near him, then his voice comes back loud and clear. “Where are you?”
