“I know… I just wonder what normal peoples’ lives are like. I don’t know anything outside of the club.”
“Me neither.”
I grew up in the club just like she did. I spent my entire life living in the apartments on the club property. My mom left when I was little because she couldn’t handle being an old lady. She wanted no part of the club and she knew Dad wouldn’t let her take me with her, so she left without looking back. I haven’t heard from her since.
Dad was a fantastic father. He made sure I was well taken care of and put me above everything else. He died a few years ago from a heart attack, but not before I patched. He was so proud of me when I officially became a member.
Right before he died, he told me not to give up hope on Roxy. He said even though Porter keeps saying his daughters are off limits, sooner or later he’d let club members date them because the alternative is them dating men from a different club or men who lead normal lives and wouldn’t want to deal with the Savage Wolves.
He insisted a man outside of the club life wouldn’t be able to handle Roxy either. She’s too tough. Too stubborn and independent. A soft man wouldn’t know what to do with her and he’d never be able to keep her happy.
“Do you ever wish you grew up with a normal life?” She turns just enough to meet my gaze. She’s letting me see the vulnerable side of her, but I know those thick walls will be back up again soon.
“I try not to think about what could’ve been.” I move my thumbs back and forth across her stomach.
“Why not?”
“Well, you asked about a normal life. This is a normal life for us, Rox. Whatever you know is your normal. Who cares if your life isn't the same as the woman you walk past on the street or the man at the grocery store. They don’t necessarily have a better life than you, it’s just different.”
“You’re telling me all women have men flirting with them as much as I do? Men trying to put their property patch on them within minutes of meeting me?” She arches a brow at me.
“Who is trying to put a property patch on you? I’ll kill them,” I growl.
“Every biker who passes through Savage and every prospect before Dad has the talk with them.” She rolls her eyes. “You can't kill everyone, Chopper.”
“I can try though,” I mumble under my breath, making her chuckle. “Normal guys push for marriage instead of a property patch. I have a feeling every man would flirt with you no matter where you grew up and would be begging to make you theirs. I can guarantee it.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re confident and sexy. You know what you want in life and you’re not afraid to make it happen. You command a room as soon as you walk through the door and you don’t take crap from anyone. Plus, you have an impressive body.” I shrug when she elbows me in the stomach and wrap her in a bear hug.
I don’t know why I can't seem to keep my hands off of Roxy tonight. I should’ve taken her straight home from the bar. I should’ve left her at the door to her apartment and gone to my own place to sleep alone.
Instead, I'm struggling to control my urges. I want to pin her to the ground and hover over her. I want to kiss her until she’s begging me for more. I want to convince her to wear my property patch and make everyone aware she’s mine and no one else can touch her.
“And you have the sexiest eyes I’ve ever seen,” I murmur, pressing another kiss to her neck.
“Really?” She glances back at me again.
This time, I lift her off my lap and spin her around until she’s straddling my waist. I drape the blanket around her shoulders and use the fabric to tug her closer to me.
“I swear if I thought I could stare into your eyes all night and not have you kick me in the balls, I’d do it. And if I could make sure Porter didn’t find out I was flirting with his daughter. He’d do much worse than kick me in the balls.”
“Are you scared of my dad?” The corner of her lips lift into a smirk.
“The only way I'd be scared is if you told him you didn’t want this as much as I do.” I brush a loose hair over her shoulder and let my fingertips trail down her neck. She shivers and scoots a little closer to me, draping her arms around my neck.
“If I don’t want what as much as you do?”
She’s pushing me to admit what I feel towards her and we both know it. I need to make a decision. I could pretend I feel nothing towards her, but that could push her away entirely. Or, I could put my heart on the line and hope she doesn’t rip it to shreds.
I open my mouth, planning to put it all on the line, but my ringer fills the air. I tug the phone out of my pocket and curse when I see Porter’s name on my screen.
“I gotta answer this… Porter? What’s up?”
Nothing like getting a call from her father to ruin the mood.
