Because I was beginning to think maybe I was the only one falling this hard.

His hand tightens around mine.

“Yeah?” he asks softly.

I nod.

“Yeah.”

Something in his face settles.

Like he's been holding his breath.

Like he needed to hear that.

“Okay, sweetheart.”

Sweetheart.

God.

The man could call me a parking ticket and I'd probably melt.

Then he leans across the console.

Presses a gentle kiss to my forehead.

“Can’t wait to get you home.”

And when he finally pulls out of the parking lot?

Let's just say the speed limit becomes more of a suggestion.

Because apparently Alessio Figueroa is just as eager to get me alone as I am to get him there.

The thought makes me smile all the way to his condo.

It feels like there's a hound of Hell snapping at my heels as I zigzag through traffic and finally pull into the private garage beneath my condo.

I find my spot.

Barely remember to put the damn truck in park.

Barely remember to hit the engine off button.

Because all I can think about is her.
