He finally releases me. I pick up every bag we brought with us and go straight to the bathroom. I may be able to trust him, but that doesn’t mean I have to tell him everything.
There are some things that I’ll never tell anyone.
Jett
I order enough food for four people, because I have no idea what she wants. I open my cell and type in the name that’s etched in my brain.
Andrei Petrov.
I’m not surprised, but I am.
There’s nothing. Not even a useless White Pages listing for him.
I fucking hate my forced medical retirement from the Army every day, but today it sucks more than ever. I have no in. No contacts. No high-level security access to any fucking thing.
I flip over to a text thread that I rarely use.
Me – I need a favor.
Devon – Well, well, well. We just got done talking to Blake.
Fuck. The kid is too likeable to be pissed at. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
Me – Yeah, we’ll talk about that later. You have contacts. Harlow told me. I need information on someone.
Devon – Someone other than Lennon Shaw?
Me – I’ve got that covered on my own.
Devon – That’s what I hear, mate. I thought I worked fast. Still doesn’t mean I’m fucking happy about it.
If I didn’t give a shit about Lennon trusting me, I’d tell him he has more pressing things to worry about under his roof.
Moving on.
Me – I want to know everything there is about a guy named Andrei Petrov.
I don’t get an answer right away, but I do get a fuck ton of bubbles.
Me – Don’t ask why, because I won’t tell you. At least not yet.
More bubbles.
Me – I’m going to assume your answer is a yes. And you can thank me for coming straight to you instead of Harlow. If I have to ask her to ask you, I will.
Devon – That’s bloody low, and you know it. I can’t say no to her in anything.
Me – I know. Should I text her instead?
Devon – Fuck no. Do not involve your sister. I’ll see what I can do.
Me – Appreciate it ... bro.
Devon – I didn’t realize we were at the bro stage yet. Good to know. I’ll remember that when I want to emotionally blackmail you.
Me – I’m actually looking forward to that.
Devon proves when he’s had enough, he’s had enough.
