“Yes.”

“Serak.”

“I will tell you.”

“Good.”

She took off her own shirt.

I forgot the next thing I’d been going to say.

She saw it happen.

“That’s better.”

“Come here.”

“No.”

“Jessa.”

“You’ve been giving orders for fourteen days. You can survive five minutes without one.”

She stepped out of the rest of her clothes and climbed onto the bunk, one knee on either side of my thighs.

My hands settled at her waist.

She was warm everywhere I touched her.

I wanted to turn her under me. The impulse went through my body before I could stop it.

Pain pulled once under the bandage.

Jessa felt the change in me even before I moved.

Her palm landed on my sternum.

“No.”

This time I laughed.

A short sound. Surprised out of me.

“Fine.”

“Good captain.”

“That is not a phrase anyone on my ship has ever used.”

“I’m not on your ship.”

She kissed me again.

Her hand moved down my chest, over my stomach, lower.

The laugh disappeared.

I said her name.
