“I didn’t fuck Charity.”

I fire and miss the target entirely. With a fucking shotgun. At fifty feet. The Cattle closes her eyes and lets out a silent scream. Why the bitch keeps silent, I’ll never know. I’d be screaming my head off if I were her. We clearly already see her.

“Bullshit,” I say. I lower the gun and round on him. “You fucked her, and I think you’re a piece of shit for that.”

“That’s just your jealousy speaking.”

“It has nothing to do with me. I just want to know how you could do that to your friend. And to think I almost considered sleeping with you again.”

“My turn.” He takes the gun from my hands, raises it, and nails the target on the first try. He doesn’t even have to steady his aim.

The ledge collapses, and the woman collides with the ground a few feet away from us. A rib breaks through the camo top and yellow vest, followed by a jet of blood. Her hands and feet have been secured, but that doesn’t stop her from writhing and groaning and doing the most as the pain and lack of air make her panic.

I snatch the gun from King after he reloads. “Animal abuser, right?”

He nods, and I press the barrel to the woman’s skull, which is sadly still intact. But not for much longer.

“Sayonara, cunt.” With a smile, I turn her brain matter into pudding. “Tag her and let’s keep moving. We’ve got a competition to win.”

I’m done listening to King’s lies. It’s time to do some killing.

Chapter Twelve

King

After our second kill in the woods, I’ve all but forgotten the grand plan, the cabin, and what exactly it is that I’m supposed to be doing. Because it’s happening again. Josie is pulling me into her orbit, lowering my defenses with her charm and easy demeanor.

Seeing her kill is like taking a little blue pill. My dick hasn’t been soft this entire time.

Josie bends at the waist and attaches the tag to our second victim. It’s a man this time, and I already know what she’s planning as she begins to lower his pants.

“Not today, my beauty.” I grab her arm to pull her up, but she shakes out of my gentle hold.

“Oh, come on. When did you lose your sense of adventure?” She rolls her eyes and goes back to his pants. “You remember how funny it was.”

I had a sense of humor then. That was before feelings got involved and something shifted inside me. When it shifted, it crushed the parts that remembered how to laugh.

She can’t revive those shattered pieces.

“Let’s keep moving,” I urge. “You want to win, don’t you?”

Another shotgun blast rings out, belaboring my point.

“I’m almost finished.” With a few flicks of her wrist, she raises the dismembered penis. “There. Now we just need to collect a few more.”

“I’m not doing it, Josie.”

I look around for any clue that may lead us to our next kill as Josie gets to her feet and stuffs the appendage into her vest pocket. A bit of blood spatter marks her cheek, and I fight the urge to bend lower and lick it away.

“See anything?” she asks.

Yes. I see my fucking demise, and she’s standing right in front of me.

But I shake my head.

“We’d better hoof it to the stream, then. We don’t want to lose out on fifty points.”

I let her take the lead so that I can admire her from afar. If I were to settle down, it would have to be with a woman like Josie, wouldn’t it? Someone who could understand me. Marcia couldn’t, and maybe that’s why she refused my hand. She couldn’t articulate that she sensed something was off about me, some rotten bit of soul that she could smell but couldn’t see, but Josie reveled in my decay.
