My breath catches as she slowly begins to untie it.

“Eden, I wasn’t telling you just to—”

“I know.” She smiles. “I’m doing this because I want you, Sage. Your head is feeling better, yes?” Her hands slide over my bare thighs as the fabric sinks to the floor.

My hand comes up to cup her jaw. “I don’t care about the woman in the vision. I only care about you.”

“I know, Sage.” She shifts in my lap, her hips grinding forward in a slow circle. The friction makes me groan. “I can feel how much you love me, Sage. It pours out of you.”

“Are you sore from yesterday?” I ask, gripping her thighs to steady her.

“A little bit,” she admits against my mouth. “But the venom Ashán gave me this morning is still dulling most of it.”

YES. Focus on HER. Only her, Ashán rasps.

“You’re all I can think about, ílyara. You’re all I’ve ever been able to think about.”

Two seconds are up, Sage. My turn.

Wait. Ashán, no—

how can something so sweet be so sinful?

—ASHÁN

One moment, Sage is looking up at her with desperation and longing. The next, my spine straightens, and I’m driving this body.

My voice drops a few octaves.

“Hello, ash’kaela.”

Eden’s eyes go wide, her hands freezing against my chest. “You sound different.”

“Because I am different.”

“Ashán?” she whispers.

I tilt my head, my skeletal hand sliding slowly down the delicate curve of her spine.

“Say it again.”

“Say what again?”

“My name.”

The water runs cold between us, but I cannot feel it. I feel only her weight sinking down over my thighs, and her breath washing over the vorí bone of my jaw.
