She smiled wide and followed me into our dorm. When I entered, I saw she had rearranged my desk, books, and school supplies. My luggage was neatly stacked against the wall in the corner, the mini-fridge wedged between my bed and desk, with my bed completely bare because some ho wanted to fuck on my sheets.

Braelyn’s side of the room was set up nicely with white and pink shit everywhere. She had the fluffy throw rug, pillows, comforter, laptop, mini-fridge, posters of inspiring leaders, and makeshift racks for her clothes and shoes.

“I figured I’d let you have the closet. I like to wake up and see my things in full view. Don’t ask me why; I just do.” She giggled. “You’re welcome to anything I have, just let me know what you want, but please make sure you put it back the way I had it. I won’t freak out or anything, but it’d irritate me if it’s not how I had it originally. I’m usually not this talkative, but I figured we should get better acquainted since we’ll be living together for this last year.

“I have a boyfriend named Xander, who may stop by from time to time, but there won’t be any funny business going on in here. I respect our privacy. Um, I’m twenty-two, and my major is biochemistry. I’m sort of a science freak, too. Don’t judge me.” She laughed.

“Sweet,” was all I had for her. I was tired and wanted to shower and take my ass to bed.

“What’s your major?”

“Journalism.”

“Oh, period. You love writing and stuff?”

“I do.” I took a seat on my bed to remove my shoes. I could feel Braelyn’s eyes on me and already felt like she was an intruder.

“I have an extra sheet and comforter set if you need it.”

“I’m good. I’m going to Walmart tomorrow to get me some.” It was quiet for a moment, and I was hoping she wouldn’t keep talking to me. I wasn’t trying to be rude, but I really didn’t have much conversation for her. I was tired, irritable, missing home, and wasn’t for all the introductions right now. I guess she caught the hint because she didn’t say anything further.

I gathered my belongings for my shower. I was happy that our dorm room was big enough to have our own personal bathroom and small lounge area. Our beds had a respectable amount of space so we wouldn’t feel as though we were crowding one another.

“She had them switch her dorm,” Braelyn blurted while I grabbed my essentials. I looked over at her in confusion. “Sabrina,” she confirmed. “I guess when you have money, and your parents own half the school, they make certain accommodations for you. She told them that you harassed her, and she felt unsafe.”

I chuckled lightly and shook my head. “Are you kidding me? I’ve never met that girl a day in my life,” I lied. I didn’t want my name attached to that cum guzzler at all. “This is my first day back. I had to walk in on her getting pounded in my fucking bed and was told to get the fuck out.”

“I believe you. Sabrina is a troublemaker. She feels like since her parents have ties here, she can do whatever she wants and not get reprimanded for it. They told me if I felt unsafe around you, they will see about getting me another roommate and offer you a chance to live off campus.”

“Are you serious?”

She nodded.

Unbe-fucking-lievable.

“That’s insane. But I’d take living off campus any day. That broad needs mental help. Her and her funky-ass crew of rich fucks.”

Braelyn giggled then started to undress.

I grabbed my caddy and clothes, then headed toward the bathroom. Before I entered, I turned to her and said, “You can tell them I threatened you and rearranged all of your stuff. Maybe then I’ll get my own space again.”

Braelyn smiled and shook her head. “Nope. You’re stuck with me and my OCD.”

“Grrr,” I growled. She guffawed as I continued to the bathroom.

Just one more year.

“Lilo. Lilo, it’s time for you to get up, baby,” I heard my nana say as I cracked open one of my eyes and saw her standing over me with a smile. I could feel a little heaviness weighing on me and saw my baby girl sleeping soundly on my chest.

After my game yesterday, I came home, showered, and was supposed to meet up with the crew, but I ended up crashing from exhaustion. Being the president of the honors society, captain of the basketball team, a full-time father, and on top of my studies left me no real room to do much of anything.

Kiyanne woke up around 3 a.m. to get changed and fed before I ended up laying her on my chest to burp her, and we both passed back out.

I rubbed my eyes, trying to wake myself up. “What time is it?”

“A little after seven,” she replied, reaching for Kiy. I kissed her little forehead and allowed my nana to take her away. “Hurry up and freshen up. Breakfast is ready for you.”

I nodded while she left the room. I wanted to roll back over and fall asleep, but I couldn’t. It was only Tuesday, and I was already anticipating the weekend to come.
