He just jumped out of the fucking window, in a suit with me slung over his shoulder wearing a dress.
From the hundredth floor.
We're going to die.
I hate him, I fucking hate him.
I'll hunt him in Hell, I swear I'll make his afterlife worse.
“You are a psychopath!” I scream, pure hatred and fury tearing out of my throat.
The wind tears the scream from my lungs.
The city becomes nothing but streaks of harsh colored lights beneath us, the government tower rushing past in a blur of glass and steel.
My stomach lurches into my throat.
Every instinct in my body tells me this is it—that this is how I die, thrown over a psychopath's shoulder after crashing through a hundredth-floor window.
Evren only laughs, the sound swallowed by the roaring air.
He is happy to die? Good for him.
I’m not.
Something flashes below us.
A massive steel platform rockets upward along the side of the building, riding recessed magnetic rails embedded into the façade.
Blue warning lights pulse across its edges as hydraulic arms unfold beneath it, far too fast for any maintenance equipment to move.
We slam onto it.
The impact rattles every bone in my body.
Evren hisses through his teeth.
The platform drops several more floors under our combined weight before magnetic brakes shriek against the rails, throwing a shower of sparks into the night.
I cling to Evren with everything I have, my heart hammering so violently it hurts.
Before I can even catch my breath, the platform surges downward again.
A startled cry tears through my throat as we fall again.
We rocket along the side of the skyscraper, windows whipping past close enough to touch.
Wind lashes my face and tears at my dress while the broken window high above disappears into the distance.
I risk one look over the edge and instantly regret it. The streets are impossibly far below.
“We're still falling!” I scream.
Evren's laugh vibrates through his chest beneath me.
“Nah,” he says. “Now we're just taking the express.”
