No such luck. Her blue eyes opened, unfocused at first, then sharpening as they found mine. A slow smile spread across her face, and I was struck again by how beautiful this human was—not despite her alien features, but because of them. The varied pigmentation of her skin, the remarkable color of her hair, the asymmetrical arrangement of her freckles—all created a fascinating complexity that my own species’ uniform appearance lacked.

“Morning,” she murmured, voice rough with sleep. Her gaze drifted downward, noting the tent in the blanket with obvious amusement. “Someone’s happy to see me.”

I felt heat rise to my face—a human reaction my partially-transformed body had adopted. “I apologize for the involuntary physiological response. My tentacle—” I stopped, correcting myself. “My reproductive organ seems to have developed autonomy from my conscious control.”

Tammy’s sleepy grin widened as she propped herself up on one elbow, careful not to disturb Kalith who still slumbered beside her. “Don’t apologize. I’m flattered.” Her eyes narrowed slightly, studying me with unexpected perceptiveness. “You shifted back to looking human. Were you trying to hide your tentacle boner?”

The directness of her question caught me off guard. “I... thought the human equivalent might be less alarming to wake up to.”

“Cyro,” she said, reaching out to trace one finger along my still partially-iridescent cheek, “I literally had all three of your alien selves inside me last night. Nothing about your anatomy alarms me anymore.”

Her touch sent fresh waves of desire through my system, and I felt my human disguise slipping further as my control wavered. A ripple of lavender washed across my skin, and I knew my eyes had reverted to their natural metallic state when Tammy’s pupils dilated in response.

“Besides,” she whispered, leaning closer until her breath warmed my face, “I kind of prefer the natural version. More... versatile.”

The last traces of my neutrality crumbled under the heat of her gaze.

How did she do this to me?

Make me want to abandon duty, science, and my true home…

TAMMY

To infinity, which surprisingly isn’t beyond Kansas.

Cyro changed. I watched it in real time, as his control slipped away and he melted under my gaze. His struggle played out across his face, the human features fighting against alien instincts as his skin rippled with barely contained iridescence.

There was something endearing about watching a being from another world wrestle with the same basic urges that had been driving humans since we crawled out of the primordial soup. Only difference was, his urges came with tentacles.

“I am glad that our bodies do not bother you,” he finally said, shaking his head slowly. “But I am unused to being controlled by primitive urges. I am a being of science, of facts and figures.”

His words were formal, but his body language screamed conflict. The blanket over his lap twitched suspiciously, and patches of blue-green light pulsed at his collar where his human disguise was thinning. I fought back a smile, strangely touched by his internal struggle.

I darted my tongue across my lower lip, not missing how his metallic eyes tracked the movement. “And if I want you to be controlled by primitive urges?”

My cheeks went hot as the words left my mouth, blood rushing to the surface like I was sixteen again, asking Bobby Miller to the Sadie Hawkins dance. Except Bobby Miller hadn’t had tentacles or the ability to make every nerve ending in my body sing like a choir on Christmas. My breath came in small gasps of anticipation. Last night had been amazing—transformative even—but somehow, it wasn’t nearly enough.

I didn’t think I’d ever be satisfied now. Being with the aliens was... transcendent. Like discovering a new color in the rainbow, or an extra sense I never knew I had. How could I go back to plain old human sex after experiencing multiple limbs that could touch me everywhere at once?

Cyro hesitated, his posture rigid with restraint even as more patches of his true skin peeked through the human disguise. I could practically see the formulas and probability calculations running behind those silver eyes.

“Think of it as... further research, Cyro,” I suggested, my voice dropping to a whisper that seemed to fill the still morning air of the stable. “You’re just continuing to explore a new world, and new species.”

For a moment, nothing happened. Then, like sunshine breaking through clouds, Cyro’s human mouth cocked up on one side. He couldn’t help but smile at me, his silvery eyes warming from mercury to molten platinum.

“Research,” he repeated, his formal tone now tinged with amusement. “An ongoing xenobiological study with significant mutual benefit potential.”

“Exactly,” I nodded eagerly. “Very important scientific work. Can’t leave it half-finished.”

His smile widened, and I watched in fascination as he made his decision. Slowly but deliberately, he allowed his true sexual organ to shift, lengthening and stretching out of one of the boxer leg holes. It grew and transformed until it hung just past his human knee, exactly as it had the night before. The tip was thick and bulbous, mushroom-shaped like a knot already beginning to swell, its color deepening from pale lavender to a rich purple that seemed to pulse with its own heartbeat.

“I can’t believe that was inside me last night,” I whispered, looking up at him, then back down at the impressive appendage. My insides clenched with remembered pleasure and anticipation of more to come.

Movement from the hay beside me caught my attention. I turned to find Kalith stirring, his deep brown eyes flickering open to meet mine. Unlike Cyro and Vantor, he hadn’t bothered maintaining his human disguise through the night—tentacles sprawled in all directions from his central mass, only the vaguest suggestion of the handsome, sharp-cut features remaining on what passed for his face.

As our eyes locked, those features rapidly reconstructed themselves, tentacles withdrawing beneath skin that materialized like paint flowing across canvas. Within seconds, he appeared almost entirely human again, except for the smaller tentacle that remained stubbornly wrapped around a lock of my hair, as if unwilling to break that final connection.
