But she didn’t. Instead, she curled her fingers around my shirt, pulling me even closer.
“What is happening?” she whispered, as if I would have a real answer. “I don’t understand this. I should hate you. Fight you.”
I didn’t know.
All I knew was that my attraction was off the charts, so much so I was ready to lose it.
“Nothing that should be happening.”
“Then make it stop.”
With another deep breath, the answer was clear in my mind.
The ramifications of my decision were not.
But I answered her anyway.
“I can’t.” As soon as she tilted her head, there was no sense of ceasing what had been a thought since the moment I’d laid eyes on her.
I shifted my hand, tangling my fingers in a fistful of her hair. As I lowered my head, she made the mistake of tilting her chin. This was a huge blunder, completely avoidable if I walked away.
But that wasn’t going to happen.
The moment I crushed my lips over hers, a crackle of electricity slammed into my muscles, immediately driving into hers. She moaned once again, this time into the kiss and capturing the sound was a sweet reward.
There was nothing gentle about my actions. The kiss was carnal, obliterating all sense of duty and honor. She’d already broken something inside of me and God help me, but I wasn’t eager to repent.
Her lips parted, her tongue immediately pushing against mine. As soon as she rolled her hand up and over my shoulder, I jerked her onto her toes. My weight crushed hers, the closeness allowing me to feel the rapid thud of her heart.
I couldn’t think clearly.
I had no desire to breathe or even focus.
All I wanted was to consume every inch, tasting then devouring.
When I yanked her head, the soft purrs escaping pulled the last sense of duty from my aching body.
At least for tonight, the Resistance could wait.
CHAPTER 5
Star
I moaned in response to his brutal kiss, unclear why my hunger was so intense. I’d been truthful in wanting to hate him, to blame him and his friends for interrupting my mission.
Yet the closeness I’d felt from minute one had all but consumed me.
Now, with the way I felt from being in his strong arms, I was torn with the flood of emotions I didn’t understand.
Every aspect of the Savage was unforgiving, his actions rough and relentless. I’d never been kissed before, wondering if when it finally happened I’d be disappointed.
I wasn’t.
How could I be, since his claim of my mouth and my body had already weakened my knees. There was a strange set of feelings that I’d been unable to process, a longing that had struck me as hard as the anger I’d felt earlier.
Perhaps even more so.
All the warning bells were still going off in my mind, but they didn’t seem to matter. All that did was a crazy and random spot in my brain telling me that by being with him, I was safe.
