“Nawl, you cute.” I grinned at her. “But let me go hit this nigga back and tell him you down before he starts blowing my damn phone up.”

“Okay.”

“And, ma?”

“What?”

“I meant that shit.”

Her smile slowly came back.

“I love you too.”

Yeah.

I definitely needed to get off this damn phone before she had me saying some more soft shit.

“Aight, bye.”

She laughed. “Bye, Big Daddy.”

I ended the call with a smile still sitting on my face, then immediately pulled up my agent’s number. If he wanted his damn interview, he had it.

Now, all I needed was for this shit to do what he claimed it would and get these people the fuck out of our marriage.

“Girl, what was that about?” Drayla asked once I got off the phone with Kyrie.

“Kyrie was asking me if I wanted to do an interview. His agent feels like it would be a good idea.”

I had never done an interview before. The only thing I’d really done since being with Kyrie was take a few pictures here and there for different magazines. That was about it. But actually sitting in front of somebody while they threw questions at me? Yeah, that was going to be crazy as hell.

“Are you ready for that?” she asked.

“Yeah, and then no.” I shrugged.

“I’m sure it won’t be that bad. Besides, his agent is right. Y’all probably do need this.”

“Yeah.” I nodded, knowing she was right.

“But enough about that.” A smirk spread across her face. “Let’s talk about how this man actually let your ass stay at the resort. Bitch, what the fuck did you do when y’all were in that room?”

“I didn’t do anything.” I laughed.

“Uh-huh.” She raised an eyebrow, giving me a look that said she didn’t believe shit I was saying.

“What?” I laughed again. “I really didn’t do anything. We talked. Mostly about him staying levelheaded and not doing no shit he ain’t got no business doing.”

“I hear you, but telling Kyrie to stay levelheaded is like telling his ass to go out and do some reckless shit.”

I burst out laughing. “I know, but he promised me he would think before he did anything. Besides, he knows what’s on the line.”

Whether Kyrie wanted to admit it or not, he had a lot to lose. He’d worked too damn hard for his career to throw it away over somebody else’s bullshit. And now it wasn’t just football he had to think about.

It was me, our baby, and our family. I knew losing any of that would fuck him up, especially his family. As crazy and unhinged as that man could be, there wasn’t anything he loved harder than the people he considered his.

“I hear you.” Drayla reached for her purse. “But you wanna go get something to eat? I’m hungry as hell.”

I reached for my phone. “Yeah, but let me make sure Dontae is ready.”
