My eyes narrowed as I stared at the floor. “Let me find out she did.”
“Here you go.”
“Nawl, fuck that.” I sat back. “If her ass got something to do with this shit, somebody gon’ handle her ass too.”
“Kyrie.”
“What?”
Marvin laughed. “You don’t ever know how to chill, do you?”
“I am chilling.”
“Yeah, aight.”
I sucked my teeth.
“But wassup, though?” he asked. “What you ’bout to get into?”
“Man, probably just chill for the rest of the day. I gotta go to rehab tomorrow.”
Just saying the word made me sigh. I was so fucking ready to be done with that shit and get back on the field. I missed the lights. The crowd screaming my name. Lining up across from a nigga, knowing he couldn’t fuck with me, then proving it the second the ball hit my hands.
Football had been my life for as long as I could remember, so being forced to sit my ass down because Jamal decided to pull a gun had fucked with me more than I liked admitting. At least now, I didn’t have to worry about his ass anymore.
Me and my cousin chopped it up for a little while longer before I told him I’d holla at them later.
The second the call ended, I tossed my phone onto the bed beside me. That bitch hadn’t even sat there a full minute before it started ringing again.
“Man, what the fuck?”
I snatched it up and looked at the screen. It was Thomas, my fucking agent.
I stared at his name and picture for a second before answering. After the shit he’d said about Sianni the last time we talked, I was hoping like hell he wasn’t calling me on no hoe shit today. The way my patience was set up, this conversation could go left real fucking quick.
I swiped the talk button over and put him on speaker.
“Yeah, bruh. Speak.”
“Hey, Kyrie. Are you busy?”
“Nawl, I’m chilling. Wassup?” I leaned back against the headboard. “And make sure it ain’t no bullshit.”
He sighed. “I haven’t found out who sent those pictures in yet, but I did come up with something that might take some of the heat off you and Sianni while we figure this out.”
That caught my attention.
“And what’s that?”
“I was thinking maybe the two of you could do a photoshoot and sit down for an interview with PRIMEPLAY Magazine.”
My brows slightly lifted. PRIMEPLAY wasn’t some bullshit blog looking for clicks. They were big-time. I’d done a shoot with them a while back, and everything had gone smoothly. They hadn’t twisted my words or tried to make some messy shit out of nothing either.
“They’re interested?” I asked.
“Very. And with all these fake-marriage rumors floating around, I think this could help. Instead of letting everybody else tell your story, you and Sianni get the chance to tell it yourselves.”
I rubbed my hand across my beard as I thought about it.
